WIW: Not what I had in mind

I'm kicking off this thread with my Friday outfit disaster. Long story short, the *bargain* pair of Commando tights that I thought were black with subtle red stripes were really red tights with tiny black stripes. Not exactly polished UWP.

The rest are recent WIW's and the last is a question about styling this old KK dress. I feel nekkid without something over it. I usually wear my denim jacket but I wanted to change it up. Do any of these work or are they frumpalicious? I need some patterned black tights, I think. (Are you sick of the fur vest?)

Kelly, you're such a fashionista! All the outfits are great! My favourite is the third one, that scarf is gorgeous! I also like the green blazer teamed up with the black dress a lot.

Kelly, I love your style! I think each of these is just fab. You have a very well honed style and knows what works for you. Looking a the pics of the dress with the different toppers, the only one that doesn't work so well to my eye is the one with the black watch? tartan. I feel that jacket is just a touch too long for the dress.

You look lovely in all your outfits, clever thing! I actually really like your red stockings in the first outfit - I think they are fun. You are lucky that you are slim so your legs do not look like tree stumps in them (ahem).

Regarding the last dress and your different looks, I really love the dress with the fur vest and booties I must confess. The emerald jacket is a close second.

As for the dress - I like the first three outfits... not sure about the boots and the striped cardi (4) - I am thinking that maybe that outfit could work with the shoes from (1)? And I would love to see the emerald jacket one with heels...? Patterned tights of course would be fantastic!

#1 through #5 are all fab to me. For the black dress my favourites are the emerald and fur.

Those tights in #1 would go great with my new burgundy ankle boots. I also really love #2. And #4.

Kelly, these are all fabulous outfits, even #1. My favorite is 2.
About the KK dress outfits, I like the fur vest best. I like the green jacket although it is a little longer than ideal, which is probably why your cropped jean jacket works so well. For another idea can you pop a v-neck sweater over the dress?

I cannot see why the red tights are a disaster! What's wrong with drawing extra attention to your fabulous legs?

I'm torn between fur vest and emerald jacket, they're both great.

I like them all, Kelly! The colors in 3 are really beautiful. Love the poncho and the head to toe look in 4. You've styled that dress really nicely. Like others, my favorite is the fur vest. The tartan jacket looks a bit too long to my eye. The green jacket is also nice.

So envious of your boot collection. Your WIWs are terrific as usual and I don't see the red tights as a disaster at all. Would they be too much with the KK dress and red stripe sweater?
My fave topper with the dress is the vest - love it and the green jacket!

I like the red tights too. I like colored tights in the winter to bring some fun and color into winter outfits. I really like how you've layered in #2 and 3 and all your scarves look great. I prefer the dress with the fur vest and boots too. The green jacket also looks very good but the bare legs make me feel like you look cold. Maybe some dark tights would help.

#1 is not a disaster at all - and I am generally not a fan of bright coloured tights. It works!

And the rest of your outfits are pure casual inspiration!

As for your last question - love all the renditions. Just. Can't. Pick. A. Fave.

I saw the tights on sale at my Nordtsrom rack, and almost got them. I like how they look on you quite a bit, and might have to go get them now. To my eye, they read almost burgundy.

The KK dress is lovely with all the toppers, but the emerald jacket and Oxfords is my fave. I really like that dress a lot! I have the tunic (from Anne) that is it's cousin

I like outfit #4 best for overall fit and it's casual chic, effortless look, and then #1 and then #2 and then the emerald jacket....I like them all too!

I haven't read all the comments, so forgive me if I repeat, but what do you think about wearing the red tights in #1 with the very last striped cardigan?

I love the way you've styled the dress in the last pic in #6 - grey boots, grey sweater. There's a real unified look going on there.

p.s. Totally off topic - I have noticed lately that my fingers have been typing their own messages. I say "look", fingers type "looking". I say "complexion," fingers type "collection." Does anyone else have this problem ever?

Thank you all for commenting. I am quite happy that the red tights are getting a thumbs up. I’ve wanted to try the brand for quite awhile--they live up to their reputation of a comfortable waist band!

@Deborah: Thank you! It’s funny but the tartan was my fave and I’m disappointed it didn’t photograph as well as I thought it looked. It does look boxy in the photo--must be my mirror!

@doulahil: Thank you. I had mixed feelings about the cardi over the dress but it felt the most like me. I will try it with my oxfords--it would give a very boyish vibe. Lol--no heels over here unless they are attached to a boot
@rae: Thanks! I thought #2 was very UWP. I was trying to figure out a way to wear the poncho and not freeze. The solution was to layer my drapey cardigan underneath. It’s one of my favorites and super toasty!

@Joy: Thank you! The V-neck is a brilliant idea. I hadn’t thought of that. The cowl neck is kind of problematic for me. I love them on their own but find they don’t play well with others.

@pil: Lol! Thanks, Pil! I fear the red tights may clash with the burgundy in the sweater. I’ll have to try them together. Now that the tights are getting a thumbs up, I’m going to have to figure out some other ways to wear them!

@Angie: Thank you! You are too kind! Thank you for chiming in on the dress toppers. I’ve been struggling with the cowl neck and the overall dress shape which just feels so fitted to me. I think these toppers are a great way to get the dress into rotation.

These all look fab Kelly! The tights in #1 are quite nice, the moody dark shade really works well. Perhaps it is the light color of the topper that is throwing you there? It reads a bit more springy to my eye. #2 is SUPER and I MUST KNOW where from is that amazing poncho!?? All versions of toppers/footwear with the KK look great to my eye, as do the rest of the outfits you've posted! Sweet furry vest, is that the one from Express? I love the feathery look of it.
