WIW: Not so Casual Jeans - YouLookFab Forum

Jeans Friday, but I wanted to wear extra non-sweater layers today, so I had to bump it up a bit to dressy casual.

The colored booties are a NAS purchase that I'm finally breaking out. The bright splash of red feels, well, really bright. It is funny, isn't it, how you can be perfectly comfortable with one eye-catching item, but another strikes you as really out there? Leopard wedges? Leopard ankle boots? Silver shoes? Snakeskin? Cobalt? All perfectly subdued in my world. Red boots? Wild!

On my way out the door, I threw on my slouchy knit hat to protect my hair from the rain. I figured it wasn't exactly a beret, right? Nope. Right off the bat, I got a French beret compliment. The hat is really just a slouchy, kind of hipster hat from Allsaints, so I don't think of it as classic at all.

What do you think? Does the hat look awkward?

I love the booties with your straight jeans -- they look great. They're such a gorgeous deep shade of red! And I am pro-hat. Maybe it picked up a little French vibe from your striped T, but it doesn't really read beret to me. Either way, though, I think it looks great on you, with just the right amount of slouch. Love it!

Navy, red and stripes - what can be better for Friday?
I have the same thing about red booties, have to ease myself into styling them for some reason - but I am working on it!
It is hard to see the hat in the picture but it does look like a beret - and must be pretty good IRL if it got you compliments.

@Sveta, OK! Hooray! I am not alone in the whole red booties seem really really red thing. I will be working hard on easing. I wonder if more red in the outfit would soften it? Not easy, but so cute.

I know exactly what you mean about red shoes. I got rid of my one pair of red boots. I love crazy shoes too, and I love red lipstick but not red shoes.

You do smart casual so well! And the hat is so so fab on you. I love red booties! I had a pair for several years and wore them so often that I decided to get a more modern pair this year. The old ones were deep red but the new ones are quite bright, more cherry. I hope they don't feel too out there!

SO FAB! You are looking gorgeous here. Love the hat. Did you see my post about the Garnet hill slouchy cashmere hats? They are my go-to. They don't mess up your hair but keep your head warm and toasty, and they are the perfect amount of slouch.

Una, you are so right! That's exactly why I bought and love that hat. Coverage, but no hat hair! Now I need to check out Garnet Hills. Wait. Who am I kidding. I knit. I have several of these and yarn to knit a hundred more. I need to get knitting instead!

Love the boots. Red is a universal neutral. Your fits and proportions are stellar and the slouchy version of a beret gives a modern, casual twist.

Oh, this is nice. My kind of outfit. Love the jacket, jeans, sweater and adore the boots. I am all for red. Red boots or a red bag. Use the colour in moderation, but it is so lovely.
