Yesterday it got hot again (high of 80F/26C), so I picked out a cotton skirt in a fall-ish colour. I also really wanted to try trying a scarf as a necklace, like Shannon did. I have a short neck, so I'm always on the lookout for scarf ties that don't emphasise that. It was too hot for anything but a small scarf, and the colours in this one prompted me to pick a mauve tee with a deeper neckline to fit the scarf. I wanted a lighter coloured belt to balance the scarf, and this was the lightest one I had other than my silver one (thinking I could have discovered a wardrobe hole...I'll see if I reach for an offwhite belt in the future). Finally, I added a bit of fun with my colourful evil eye bracelet: I love the symbolism of evil eyes, and I was born in Greece, so when I finally found this several years ago I snapped it up. My niece (now 7) was a toddler at the time, and if she got fussy I could always distract her with it as she loved all of the colours, so it brings back fond memories. Anyway, in theory, this should have worked, but I didn't feel fab wearing it and looking at the pics I definitely don't think it's up to my standards. In fact, I was tempted to just not post at all, but I think it's helpful for my style progress to acknowledge the failures as well as the successes.

The main problem is the tee: it's quite thin and worn, which is why I usually only wear it for layering, so wearing it on its own made me feel a bit slovenly. In fact, I think it's too worn out for even layering now, so it's destined for the rag bin. I've only held on to it this long because I love mauve so much and haven't been able to find a blouse in that shade! And while I absolutely love this skirt (it has the sweetest detail inside: an attached light navy blue cotton slip with beautiful lace edging and a taupe ribbon running through it), paired with a worn out tee makes it look a bit sloppy too. I think I prefer more texture difference than I have here, especially since my belt has a similar feel too. Oh well! Can't win them all, and I did enjoy wearing the scarf as a necklace.

For my walk I added an unlined, lightweight cotton jacket for sun protection and as a layer to make the tee more acceptable. It's more flattering than it shows here: posing in front of my mirror sometimes obscures how the waistlines of things behave. I put on my navy shoes, because it was too hot for booties/boots, but I refuse to wear sandals in November.

I didn't realise until I uploaded the pics that I put together the exact same colour combination as the day before! heehee Definitely prefer Wednesday's version! All comments welcome.
