WIW: not maximal enough? - YouLookFab Forum

This outfit didn't quite come together as cohesively as I hoped. It finally feels a bit autumnal so I brought out some NAS pieces, namely the Spanx leggings and Franco Sarto loafers. I originally was going to wear the AGL plum oxfords but they hurt my knee more than the loafers did--which is also why I didn't want to wear ankle boots, which would have gone better. (My ankle is still incredibly sore from the hiking last week). Anyway, I felt like the bomber jacket was a bit light for the rest of the ensemble...maybe I should have not worn socks and balanced the lightness with a bit of skin. Also, I feel like this outfit needed more maximalism ideally, with a patterned bottom or dress instead. Maybe I've been looking at too many NYFW photos.

I think it's a nice look C1, but if we're nitpicking: No socks and sleeves pushed up would balance a bit better (as you said, more skin to lighten up); or keep socks/sleeves and go harder with the contrast underneath (more black with the gray as accents or light gray/white so it's more stark overall) would too. I'm all for more maximal if you want to go that way! Gorgeous bomber. Would be super fun to pop into hectic print mixes ^^

I like the idea, too, but I think you're right that more color / light and less dark might have carried it along a little further.

Very 2016. I like Aida's suggestions, and can see a black and white polka dot sock work really well.

Thanks for your suggestions, Aida! I have already implemented the removal of socks, I think it has made a difference. And I am scrunching my sleeves now that I am no longer wearing a lab coat.

Ummlila: usually I wear this outfit with a darker topper but wanted to be more 2016 with the bomber.

I kinda think the removal of the jacket, showing the nipped waist of the dress, was the greatest game-changer... I like the outfit with and without socks!

I would have added a pattern belt. A skinny belt . Stripes or polka dot. If subtle maximum I would do a color palette from the bomber jacket. i love the look.

It does seem to need some added brightness. I agree that removing the socks made a big difference. I like Ledonna's idea of a patterned belt. Or I wonder about a scarf that maybe picks up some of the color from the jacket?

I think the grey is too different without being contrasty enough - maybe a chunky gold or red necklace would help it be background for something else more maximal?

Rachylou: the dress+leggings+shoes is a standard outfit for me, but I wanted to try it with a more maximal topper--I usually wear it with a solid colored blazer, moto, or sweater.

Jane: thanks! Actually, seeing this picture at least, I think I sometimes forget that I have quite well-defined shoulders and taper that tone down my pearish-ness, and I shouldn't forget that while dressing.

Ledonna: that's a great suggestion about the belt.

RobinF and alaskagirl: I agree about the added brightness, somehow the gray wasn't the right background for the bomber.

A cropped jacket...?

I like the bomber with the fit and flare dress. Much better sans socks.
