Dear YLF,

I had a lovely day today. Instead of suffering through bills and catching up on work, which would have been the alternate plan, I went to the harbor to watch boat races with my sweet children and their grandparents. I am redeveloping my relationship to pants, and these ones are high-rise Madewells with a slight bootleg and hacked hems. I never shortened them from the original length, although I am petite. It was recommended to me by YLF at the time of purchase to go a size smaller, but it wasn't possible because I had already washed them. Looking in the mirror I felt just flattering enough (JFE) this morning, but this photo makes me feel dumpy. Is there someway I can tweak this? Is it hopeless? Or am I being too critical?

**as a general problem with fitting jeans at the moment, I feel I am making a trade-off with sizing to my relatively wide-set hips, versus my relatively slim butt and thighs
