(ETA added) WIW: Not feeling it.

1) So I bought this pair of silver sheen hose from Old Navy, thinking it would look cute with my silver clutch.

2) Here's my outfit for church today and for tonight's music service. There's nothing blaringly wrong with the outfit, but it doesn't feel like me. I don't know if the hose is making me think mdal or the denim jacket is too casual. I didn't want to be too dressed up.

I'm stumped as to why this feels off. Maybe the YLF collective set of eyes can enlighten me. Appreciate any of your thoughts.

ETA: I guess there was an obvious problem afterall. Before heading out to the evening's music service, I took off the hose and added my red snakeskin wedges. Felt much better and the red actually made me feel more festive than the silver hose. Lesson learned: no more pale hose. Dark/sheer from now on! Thanks Fabbers, you're the best!!

I'm no expert, but it may be the hose. I think they may be too pale. The rest of your outfit looks terrific.

I think you look great in this outfit: it is a bit dressy yet it is casual.

Perhaps the problem is that the clutch and stockings are a bit matchy for you. Have you tried a brighter colored clutch? Perhaps different jewelry--something with color? I'll be interested in what others think.

Yes, also what Catnip said. My first thought was that the hose are a bit too pale--but they do look like fun.

I think the outfit looks great overall -- very flattering on you and a good balance between dressy and casual. But I agree with Catnip that the hose may be a little pale. It also looks very opaque. I could somehow see a sheerer or more textured metallic hose integrating a little better with the rest of the outfit.

I definitely agree that the hose is too pale. In particular, I think the combination of the hose+dress+jacket color don't work together - if you had contrast in other parts of your outfit, I think it would work better. You could totally do jacket+dress with different hose (or maybe bare legs) or hose+dress with a different topper.

I actually felt the opposite of MsMaven regarding the clutch and stockings. It might just be the lighting on the photo, but it almost seems like they're really close to matching but not quite, which makes them feel off rather than helping tie your outfit together.

I can't speak to your style very well, since I'm pretty new here and haven't managed to quite get a handle on what people's personal styles are like, but looking back over a few of your posts, this outfit seems a lot more casual/almost sporty than your other posts. I think it's the denim jacket that makes it feel that way.

I think it is the hose. Even though the clutch is silver the hose does not look as it belongs in the outfit: nude or sheer black would much more coherent here.
I also really struggle with colored non-sheer tights and hose styling...trying to think how I would style those silver ones. maybe with the white dress?

I sigh in shared frustration. I would love if the hose worked. (I am on a mission to lighten up my winter outfits and this would be a great partial solution.) I think Sveta's right that a lower contrast dress could work here. Or maybe even if these were more sheer it might work. But then they would not be as warm. Sigh.

The brightness of the hose is drawing my eye down, instead of toward your face. Don't know if that's any help or not!

I think these hose would work with a lighter skirt and top and shoes---but they are too light for the shoes, dress, jacket.

I'd wear shear black hose (maybe with polka dots or another design) with this particular outfit. I do love the rest of the outfit!

I see the same thing --- either a lighter dress, or darker hose would work. Perhaps echoing the blue in the denim for and ink/black combo? Or a charcoal grey?

That said, we're being picky, cause Fabbers are always looking for improvement. You look fab!

Denim jackets and shirts make me feel that way, no matter how cute/sexy/fab/amazing they are on the hanger, the model, or the people I see walking around wearing them. I put denim on and I feel like a frumpy poseur.

In your case, though, I think the stockings are a little too pale for the shoes. It borders on that 1980's white-stockings, black shoes look that everyone wore.

I have this issue with lighter hose, too. A darker pewter would work better I think.

Maybe a lighter shoe, like silver or pale grey booties, would help make the light hose work better?

I think (and I'm no expert) that the black shoes and the black dress against the grey hose are chopping you up too much. I think you could do this with grey booties or pumps but the contrast is to much right now.

And perhaps a scarf with some silver in it would help you bookend the bottom a bit more. (I'm a big fan of scarves, they solve a multitude of problems!! LOL)

I agreed with your initial misgivings but didn't have a solution. Glad you found one. The outfit looks great with the red shoes and sans the hose.

The new version looks great! I have a lot of similar issues with light colored hose, especially when it's cool toned. I think it might have to do with our Asian skin tone - it's just too big a contrast with face and arms. My rule these days is nothing lighter than my actual skin.

I wouldn't give up on the pale hose in general - I still think it could look lovely with a different outfit. (And the original outfit wasn't bad - I think it was only a bit off.)

AJ, I learned a lesson here, too, so thank you for posting. I've been playing around with darker hosiery, like taupe and black, and something felt "off" for me, too. That's why mine were never posted, so thank you for having the courage to get this subject up and running.

Another thing for me is that while I like black tights, often they seem to drop the interest of an outfit for me, since I'm blonde, whereas, someone with dark hair, like you or Parsley, can wear them so well.

You found a solution, made a good change and it all worked out.

I would be stumped how to style light silver tights like that. But I do like your revised look. Personally I think light opaque hose are really tricky. Sheer would be much easier.
