WIW: no waist to define? - YouLookFab Forum

Hi everyone, I'm still trying to wear some little-worn items to see if they are worthy to move into the new house and walk-in wardrobe when it is finally finished perhaps September. This skirt you saw a month ago. I'm not used to tucking ( a bit like Aloha Emily's recent post). I feel like my waist disappeared about 10 years ago at 47?
So, today was lovely SIL's birthday "high tea" at her house. My waist won't be any smaller after this spread! I had no dinner after that though.
2010 purple floral top.
2013 black mini skirt with leather on pockets.
2012 purple Clarks low heeled pumps- comfy, not that worn as a very specific colour.
Earrings made by the birthday girl who makes jewellery from beads. I did buy them from her at a jewellery party.
I made white chocolate rocky road.
Thoughts on outfit/components? x

I am blown away by the high tea - amazing.

You look absolutely delightful. This is a fun look for a party, the colour matching and and flirty skirt. I don't think this skirt is a super flattering shape (on anyone - not just you), but it works with how you have styled it. I really love the purple colour on you and those shoes are totally cool.

Purple is so fun - it looks like what I’d imagine your personality is like! That top looks like it might be a keeper. A lot depends on how you feel in it. Love the sparkly dragonfly earrings!!

Not a fan of the skirt - it looks like doesn’t fit right and should not hitch up in the back. The tights are adorable and the shoes look fantastic.

and you look wonderful in purple...brights really seem to brighten you up as i remember you looked lovely in red a couple of weeks ago...
now on to the waist thing....i do think you have a definite waist, as is evident in the picture which shows your wonderful bow tights, and it think its a matter of proportions, if the skirt were hitting at or slightly below the knee i think the proportions would be better. As Bijou says, i think the shape of this skirt is difficult for most of us to wear...

Seconding kkards, you absolutely have a waist. These pictures make that very evident. With a tucked top, I think a midi length skirt might look more elegant. You get that nice 1/3 top 2/3 bottom proportion going. Much easier to work with.
But this is a fun look for what looks like a fun day. And I love that top on you.

What a fun outfit!and tea looks scrumptious.l agree that you can tuck in and emphasis your waist but would go for a longer skirt and either a broader waistband or one with none at all.

Thanks all we did have a fun time. 9 women and one 16 month old boy who kept us entertained!
I have a longer black skirt I could try instead. The back view of this one really really doesn't make me happy.
Am getting closer to giving away quite a few items before our move, cheers.

It is a change of proportion - one I am adjusting to as well. I have got it wrong and right.

Jenni, I have a similar shaped skirt that I really love the fabric, but the pleating is a bit of a styling challenge. I’ve pretty much decided to wear it at home when it’s really hot, and I enjoy it that way. Is your skirt too warm for that plan?

I do see how it hitches up a bit in the back though. Still it is a fun outfit for a fun day. I adore how your shoes pick up and carry the color. Purple is divine on you.

What an amazing color palette! You look great in that shade of purple. And the tights are so fun!

I agree with the others on the skirt: I do think that a different length or slightly different style might work better. I have problems with pleats creating too much fullness in my hips, and I think the answer is to get a skirt that has the pleats or frills or whatnot starting lower (so the waistband area is more or less flat and straight, if that makes sense).

Thanks all for the nice comments. I think some of these well-before-YLF purchases, like that 2013 mini skirt, were to do with whims I would get, and sudden loves. Maybe there were some leather skirts or something in the fashion magazines that year. I seem to vaguely remember a cute skirt or dress with cut-outs of leather that I was enamoured of. And I went on a hunt for something with leather that was reasonably priced! That skirt cost me $35 on sale.
I think some of you liked it better when I wore the floral bomber with it? And the long black skirt in the red/black outfit could be tried with the purple top and shoes.
For $35 I can chalk it up to experience.

Full skirts can be so tricky as to where the pleats or gathers fall. I have “ collected “ a couple specifically for having the right drape and then built around that.
Love the dragonflies and bows!

With the bomber jacket outfit, you get the dark column of color effect going on with the boots, which I think are brown, but don’t break up the vertical line. You also bring focus up towards your face with the shoulder details on the jacket. So yes, this is very successful. For more outfits with the skirt, you could copy the outfit formula with different dark boots and bright jackets.

The purple top is fabulous on you with those cute shoes. I like everything but the skirt. It looks too small so that the pleats want to pull open and the fabric looks stiff. I like it better with the bomber jacket and leggings. The jacket looks like it covers the pleats and the leggings add leg volume to balance the width of the skirt. You are so cute.

What a fun event (and marvelous tea)! Love the playful elements in the color of the lace and the details on the tights. I'm with the others in suggesting a longer skirt --- I DO like the proportions of the shorter skirt with the bomber!
