WIW: New silver oxfords + other stuff

Hello! I was inspired by Diana and her golden oxfords to dye my orphaned black ones. I used Tarrago dye. They are quite intense, but I like them! My SO's stream of consciousness about the shoes: Tin Man, Elton John, tap shoes...So, not everyone's cuppa, but there you go!

#1: New silver oxfords with blue Express pants, purple-pink J. Crew silk blouse, beaded bag from lorisshoes.com.

#2: Slightly more detailed shot of shoes. The heels were leather, so I had to dye those too, but I kept the sole and bottom of heel black.

#3: Shot of shoes before their transformation.

#4: H&M navy sweater, See by Chloe patterned trousers, Cheap Monday booties. Felt fab in this! Love this silhouette!

#5: J. Crew neon paisley pencil skirt, Joie black silk top (has an elastic hem so it blousons), Antelope black ankle strap sandals, AT neon necklace layered with a big link silver chain. The top moves nicely IRL.

#6: Madewell neon sweatshirt, Loft gray slouchy pants, Cheap Monday booties, new bag from asos.com. This was one step above loungewear, worn to go grocery shopping. I love this sweatshirt and have been wearing it all the time--I understand that neon is quite polarizing, based on the replies to Angie's blog post :).

#7: New asos.com top, Gap cut-offs, Miz Mooz snakeskin flat ankle straps. Typical casual summer look.

Total awesomeness times 5. I love the color pairing in #1. Do you think magenta would would with cobalt blue as well? The pants show as ink blue on my monitor. I have an orphaned halogen skirt in dire need of a pairing and I have a similar blouse to yours.

I'm loving the GAP cutouts. I so want to hack a pair of skinnies and your shoe DiY is giving me lots of ideas.

Love everything else, Jonesy! You were made for neon! Love the small doses in the skirt and the necklace and the large dose in the shirt...isn't neon fun!

The luxe slouchy styles illustrated here really define your style Jonesy. You wear prints so well and I am always struck by how patterns appear neither hard nor soft on you. Remarkable.

Every pic is my cuppa and it's hard to choose a favorite among them. I love the "new" shoes and thought about silver or gold Cons, myself, but didn't get any further with it. I'm glad to see you gave these oxfords a shiny, updated look. The color and textures in 4 and 5 are beautiful and the top in 5 is lovely. I absolutely LOVE #6 and I may have asked about these booties before. Are the heels high on them, Jonesy, and is there a particular style name? Your #7 summer look is a perfect 10! You've got a good summer going, Jonesy! Maybe the SO needs a little tap dance with an Elton John song being hummed!

Zap, these pants are very vivid cobalt IRL. I would think that magenta and cobalt would look fab! Go for it, then post a pic!

Una, yes I totally remember your gorgeous oxfords! Yours are more of a gunmetal metallic, right? I was sort of hoping mine would turn out darker, but they are super-bright!

Rae, I should have mentioned that your DIY dye posts gave me the confidence I needed to go through with dyeing these! You made it look so easy and effortless :).

Thanks, Vicki! Love your idea of performing a little tap dance while singing some Elton John, for the SO :). The booties are by Cheap Monday (see pic). The heel is around 2 inches; they were sold on revolveclothing.com and urbanoutfitters.com. They are sooo comfy; I am resisting the urge to wear them with everything!

Gosh, all you clever leather dyers are really something. Now you've got me thinking, as I have a pair of orphaned black oxfords, as well, that I can't seem to wear now that I've discovered bookending. You are smashing in neon! I love the choker with the paisley skirt. In no particular order, I also love the patterned trousers esp with that sweater. And I adore your new Asos top! That is very similar to my summer uniform, too. I love it. But I'm always on the look out for more boxy tops.

I just checked and I'm a 7-1/2 and they only have an 8, possibly a 7 at UO, so there are no half sizes showing. Do they run large or small?

Effortless chic! (Well, that's how it looks. I suspect the dye job took a BIT of effort!) The shoes came out beautifully!

All the outfits are great, but #5 is just STUNNING. Wow. I love the necklace with the skirt; pure brilliance.

You are looking fab as usual Jonesy! GREAT dye job on the oxfords, I love how they turned out! The colorful outfit in #1 makes me happy! #4 is slouchy goodness, you rock some of the coolest printed pants. Love the neons in #5 and #6, and am happy to see that pretty AT neon necklace! The boots in #6 totally make that outfit for me. Great new printed top in #7, looks fab with the cut offs and the ankle strapped sandals. Such a great mix of print and color across all these outfits! Where did you land in that poll?

Love them all! First outfit is fabulous. The oxfords turned out great! What was the color number on the metallic dye you picked? I've noticed they have different silvers and golds.

The dye job on the shoes turned out amazing Jonesy! They are ultra cool! That paisley pencil skirt is fab - I love the colours in it. The neon sweatshirt and slouchy pants pairing is pure genius! You just know Angie would be ALL OVER that outfit!!!

These are all fab Jonesy outfits! I love the way you styled the print pants, and the print skirt, and the neon sweagtshirt, etc.

BTW, what IS that adorable neon necklace in #6? I lusted after the neon one from AT, but I'm fearful of statement necklaces, so this one might be more my type

Wow, for some reason I am shocked that black can go to silver like that. Fab! I love them all but 4 is super fab-tastic and 6 is many more steps than one above loungewear. At least typical loungewear. Love all your shoes, and, I must add, your hair .

Vicki, hmmm...the sizing is weird. I bought what was sold as an 11, but when I look in the boot it says EUR 41, US 10, UK 8. So that would mean, according to what's on the boot itself, a 39 = 8 (but UO would label it a 9) and a 38 = 7 (but be labeled an 8). I don't know if that helps at all or not, but maybe you can figure out what you wear in EUR sizing and go with that? I also saw that they have them at karmaloop.com...

Aida, I picked Team Pattern in today's poll! Even with all of the color in #1, I still wanted to add some pattern with the bag, as Kari noticed :).

Thanks for the nice comments about the loungewear outfit! I have to bundle up to go to the grocery store because they AC is so powerful, so I felt appropriately cozy.

MNSara, do you recognize the print pants from our fab Chicago get-together? I think about that day of shopping whenever I see those pants! The neon necklace I'm wearing is also from Ann Taylor, just a smaller one/different design than Aida's (see pic, pulled off of Google images).

Claire, I first used antique silver metallic dye, because it looked like the most subdued one in the sample pics. They came out a very bright, blue-ish silver and I wanted a warmer silver. So I bought some platinum dye (Tarrago again--hope I'm spelling that right) and sponged that over the top (just one coat) and that warmed them up. The dyeing wasn't super easy, at least vs. dyeing something from, say, medium brown to a dark brown. The dye comes with a sponge and a brush. I had to use the brush for the shoes because the sponge didn't cover enough. I did maybe 4 coats of silver with the brush, then an additional light coat of platinum with the sponge. And they are not perfect by a long shot, but I figure no one will be looking at them with a magnifying glass :).

Shevia, thanks for the nice comment about my hair. It is getting quite unruly and I could use a trim/re-shaping, but my hairdresser is on maternity leave!

Jonesy, every one of your fashion frames is so up my street --- especially the paisley skirt outfit and the summer casual at the end --- that you have me hyperventilating... BUT.

I keep coming back to those awesome shoes!!! In that inspired pairing with purple. Positively brimming with personality, that outfit. GREAT job on the DIY --- like Shevia, I'm startled you can take black to a lighter or well, *any* other hue, but that's obviously just my ignorance calling.

I love the silvered oxfords! I wonder if you can soften the brightness with a buffing of brown shoe polish?

I have been tempted by the metallic dyes, but so far I've stuck with colors I was pretty sure about. Thanks for sharing your exact process! The magenta bag I just dyed white (on one part) took so many coats it wasn't even funny. I was worried I'd run out--but I made it. Barely. It sounds like you'll have enough platinum left over for a belt or something if you want!
