Y'all gave me a ton to think about, hence the delay in responding.
I think I knew they weren’t right for me when I posted. They feel too short even with the flat shoes, which is bad. The other problem is that the style is kind of no man’s land for me; I don’t know what to do with straight legged jeans, which is what these are, I believe. I do really like the color, and it was new for me; that plus the fitting had me putting my blinders on, I think.
To Maneera’s and Una’s suggestion of pointy or colored flats to up the style quotient: I simply don’t have them, and they’re not high on my priority list of footwear to acquire.
Laura: I do have taupe, in my new boots, but these are too short to wear with them, alas! I’m not convinced the color combination is a good one, though, either. Why is neutrals mixing so hard for me, when I’ve got color mixing down?
Jenn: My only sneakers right now I basically only wear for exercise. (Well, I have a pair of Converse, but they’re worn out and I won’t replace them because I’ve decided they’re much too narrow for my feet.) I don’t need to add jeans that I can only wear with dumpy running shoes; that’d be a step backward for sure.
Angie: You’re right, of course. Thanks for putting it out there.
Celia: I know where I want to go with my style (it doesn’t feel like a change or a shift, but rather a much-delayed reveal of what I’ve wanted/felt for a long time), but it’s kind of hard for me to put into words still. I probably need to start another thread about that. Probing questions are always good, though.
Joy: No, I don’t have a Gap or Old Navy, nor a Target, in town. We do have a Kohl’s, though, which is where I usually get my jersey tees for cheap. I tried on several woven tops too, but they didn’t fit. Eventually I’ll try out the consignment store in town that my sisters in law are always raving about, though. I like the idea of cutting them off for shorts (of which I have none); I might hang on to them with that idea in mind, assuming they still fit. I can still donate them in the spring when I know about that.
