WIW: New gingham dress (at last)

I have finally put on my new gingham dress. Some of you were kind enough to suffer through my trying on session a month or two ago...ugh! A couple of weeks after that I purchased this dress, without forum approval and did show a link to the designer, Paper Shadow Clothing.

I liked the fit of the dress, it shows off my shape in a subtle way. It is cool, it is comfortable, it can be worn with flats or heels, and being modest I can wear it to school events (I am the Chair of the School Board, which has a very diverse range of cultures, and I prefer to wear more modest clothes in this setting).

But despite this I thought it was "cool" - maybe using that word show I am NOT cool, but it had a Scandinavian funkiness that I liked.

I am not sure what topper to wear, I suspect wearing a tank/camisole underneath is the best way to wear one more layer, I don't really plan to layer over. Maybe a cardigan could work but I don't have the right one now (although maybe a cardigan would be a better update than a sweater which I was planning?) Ideas welcomed for layering though!

Today wearing with cognac sandal boots, but I will wear with converse, nude sandals and blue cork wedges. I think even knee high boots could work maybe?

Anyway I probably won't post more WIW in this but I expect to wear it very regularly now it is warm enough!

ETA: RBF is back, I thought I had improved my facial expressions but please believe me I am delighted with the dress despite looking grumpy!

It looks like a great fitting dress with lots of styling possibilities. I'd probably stay with the graphic black and white theme and use a white jean jacket as a topper, with black sandals. Maybe a bright coloured handbag for interest.

I can see now that it looks black and white, but it is actually navy and soft white.

I agree a denim jacket might work and a bright bag would be good. I only have a tan/cognac bag and a bone bag though!!

It looks great on you and I like it with your cognac shoes. I would probably wear it with a casual jacket. Denim or knit. Have you tried your dyed green jacket with it? It may not work colour wise (but it might!) but I think it would work in terms of shape/style. I think you would need something a little cropped. And I would definitely wear it with light coloured boots - but I don't mind wearing boots in warmer weather. I know some people have a thing about that.

What a great dress and the cognac shoes look good. It seems like you will be able to have loads of fun dressing this one up and down!

I love this on you. The cognac shoes are perfect, and I agree with Brooklyn in terms of the denim jacket as a third piece. A sweater might take it into , uh, different territory. I don't know what RBF is - and am going to google it right now.

You look FABULOUS in this dress...despite RBF;-). Do you need a topper? What does your newly dyed olive jacket look like with it? Don't you have a green leather jacket as well? You also had a red/pink jacket back in April/May. Is that too warm now?

This dress looks fab on you. It looks like it fits so so well, everywhere. Did you have it altered?
Definitely a denim or structured topper.
I think being from NZ gives you an automatic cool factor

Hopefully you won't need a topper at all because I love to see the dress as it is But a denim jacket will definitely be a good option when you wear converse with the dress. For this - a leather jacket might work perhaps?

Thanks Smittie, being from NZ may be cool in the US but it does not make me cool here. No altering, so it was meant to be.

Thanks Carter, Brooklyn, Carole, the green jacket might work, but for for me it might be a bit too much going on!! I honestly think I will just choose it on suitable days and thrown on a cardigan if at home and cold.

Cheers Shevia - go the RBF!! I am quite a smiley animated person in real life but posing for WIW I can feel demented putting on a smile. I am getting better but I don't find it easy.

What a great dress! I sympathise about the smiling for photos - I get a terrible cheesy grin when I try to put it on. Anyway isn't RBF what all the super models pose with?

Well I missed the original posts on this dress, but I think it look great and the fit is fabulous. I love it as is, but also echo the denim or leather jacket options as toppers.

...btw, I just try imagine that I'm smiling at all the lovely YLF ladies when I do a wiw

Wow, a great dress,esp love the cut and length, and yes, it has that skandinavian playfulness/funkiness we all like:-). I would layer it with denim jackets, of all sorts. Not only bl&w, but grey, faded blue, and even a bright color(red or yellow) if you have!
