WIW: new cutout boots for Saturday errands (including a haircut)

Here are the pewter cutout boots I received last week. Obviously I decided to keep them. For their first outing I paired them with rolled up skinnies, a linen tee, and my 3/4 sleeve swing coat. Wore this for errands and other things, including going to get my hair cut and colored (long overdue). And striped socks to show through the cutouts! I got the same inverted bob and wine color I always do, but it looks new and fresh to me because it has been way too long since my last haircut! I've included some pics from right after the haircut, outdoors because the color doesn't show as much indoors.

Oh, and I discovered a somewhat funny problem with cutout boots today. One of the things we went to was a carnival type thing at a school, in the schoolyard which had unpaved paths and gravel and stuff like that. I kept getting sand and gravel in my shoes because it was going in through the cutouts! So lesson learned: don't wear these boots to walk around on gravel and sand!

You really did get a haircut! Does your hair take to that style naturally or does it take some work? It looks great - as do the boots with the striped socks. Guess they will be staying behind when you go for those long walks on the beach

It doesn't curl under as much without styling (which I don't do) but the sharp angle is cut in and is always there. I think I actually prefer it with less styling (so more straight) as the curved under bob just seems a little too polished for me.

The wine color only shows in natural light and is harder to capture in photos. It's brightest in bright sun (which we didn't have today; you can sort of see it in my avatar photo, which was from my wedding).

Actually, I have a co-worker who only noticed recently that my hair was colored, because even though she saw me every day it was almost always under the fluorescent lights at lab!

That's such a great way to do a color-color, I love that type of depth beyond natural coloring. How interesting that it doesn't show up under the fluoro lights! I have been wanting to try something similar with eggplant or blue for years but am hesitant to dye my hair because of its curls and thinness. I shall enjoy from afar for now

I used to get a more red, less purple, color, but it would fade rather quickly (as red dye jobs are wont to do) to cognac, which was interesting but showed my black roots really badly. This wine color (which is actually mostly purple dye) does not fade and you can barely see my roots, which is great because I am bad about timely salon visits.

You might try a semi-permanent glaze but I'm not sure how well it would take on black hair.

ETA: Actually, it's funny, my hair is always super soft and healthy right after I get it dyed because the dyes are mixed into what is essentially conditioner, which then sits on your head for an hour. So it's like a super conditioning treatment.

Yeah reds are terrible like that! I've done red in the past (waaaay past) and it gets especially noticeable on dark hair hehe ^^ My stylist told me that pretty much no color would show on my hair without lightening (it's about as dark a brown you can get without actually being black), and I know that there are curly gals whose curls were stripped during the lightening, including mine when I did it as a kid, which is what gives me the most pause. I've been thinking I might try balayage on the longer bits I've got to see what happens to the curls; that way if they get stripped I could just cut the ends off, and if they work then I can sport a bit of the bright color I've always wanted. Good to know about the conditioning!

I knew someone once who had an ombre job done on her very long, black hair. The very ends were bleached all the way and then she dyed them neon green for a while, and when she got sick of it she just chopped the ends off.

My hairdresser does not do a lightening/bleaching step on my hair prior to the dye step, although the dye itself probably does contain something to lighten my hair a bit on its own. I also did not want to risk stripping my hair with bleach, and on my color of hair it can often go orange. But you're right, you can never get a bright color over black this way.

I have never appreciated the appeal of cut-out boots, until now. I never would have thought to pair them with fun striped socks. So clever and so much fun!
