I Love this dress, and I love it on you. It doesn't need any alteration whatsoever. If you are overly conscious of an IT shape, I'd try a lighter coloured sweater, which would create the same V shape and line to lengthen but would not make the shoulder line as bold. But honestly it works with the black, too.

I like this neckline a lot for you actually, you have beautiful shoulders! Without a topper you'd have to be OK with it slightly emphasizing your IT shape. Honestly I think it looks fab and a bit powerful against the fact that you're in a dress

I am also an IT with a dress with a similar neckline. My trick has been to wear a non v necklace (2mmomega chain) just at the length of the neckline and since it is the omega link it stays round, then I hang a dangly pendant on it. Looking for a photo link from WIW for you but I can't figure out how to paste on the @#$5% HP touchpad.

What? You look great in this dress! Keep as is!

And the pics in the last thread look great too. I see Angie gave you a K2K! Wear with confidence!

Love the dress on you and unless this neckline makes you physically uncomfortable (some high necklines do that to me) I would not alter it. Remember Angie's post from last year about emphasizing your body traits rather than fighting them? You have beautiful strong shoulders and arms so show them of and make them the stars!

Una, I DO NOT see neck stumpage! I see fabulosity. I see a strong, sharp woman in a great, fun, tending-t-sexy dress.

That said, I have a short neck too, and appearances apart, some necklines just hit at a point where my neck *feels* the niggle. A barely there pressure *feels* like it's choking. If THAT is what's preventing you from wearing this dress more --- ie, a tactile rather than a visual aesthetic consideration --- go get that neckline swung down a bit right away!

This dress is TOO, TOO GOOD on you to keep languishing in the dark of the closet.

OMG, you all are so sweet!

My neck is definitely a hang-up. I have a thyroid issue which means my neck is swollen and I definitely feel both mentally and physically sensitive about it. As a couple of you have mentioned, anything too high or tight gives me a choking sensation. And as I've started working out more, my shoulders have gotten broader, making the neckline stretch even higher where it might otherwise be a little more forgiving. For that reason, I am going to look into having the neckline lowered to a comfort point, because that is really the only thing keeping me from wearing it more.

I went to a Bar meeting (not a bar meeting!) and got compliments from the women there, which was nice. Someone told me they loved my "steampunk" booties. Who knew estate planning attorneys could be so with it?

A million thanks for all the feedback. Looks like I'm keeping this baby (and I do love it!).

Una, I love it as is on you. I think the neckline looks just fine. But if having it altered means you will be more comfortable, then have that baby altered and start wearing it!

Hi Una--

Are you saying you have had this (spendy!) dress for over a year and not worn it once? Or just that you aren't wearing it often? [estimate?]

Either way: I'd hang it on the wall, consign it, or alter it. People raved about it as-is when you first posted and that wasn't enough to get you over the hump of discomfort -- do you see that shifting?

I went back and looked to see if I'd responded. Yep -- and no change in advice from me.

>>I know it's a spendy dress, but IMO tailoring that high boatneck to even a shallow scoop or V would better frame your face and create more balance.

Make your clothes work for you!

I love it! I think you look fantastic!

Vix, I've worn it at least 5 times, but that doesn't seem like enough for a dress of this amazing caliber. I'm going to try it backwards, though there is an exposed back zipper. It's not the just being convinced about how it looks, it's also the actual comfort across my neck. It's not strangling me, but you know some things just BUG you?

I trust your honesty and sartorial opinion highly!

Hi Una --

Thanks much for both the compliment and the "receivership."

On YLF I generally try to coat my opinion in diplomatic terms but this week all that's left is blunt, ha.

Truly though, the dress is great for your coloring, style, and life -- so I'm glad you're exploring alterations. You've worn it enough to test it out and not get over the "hump," so to speak, so hopefully a tailor can make it more psychologically and physically comfortable for you. Keep us posted!
