WIW: My Unabomber Look

We were putting up privacy screening along the back fence. I needed to be as covered up as possible due to my allergy to Leyland Cypress. Our dogs bark at our neighbors, and we hope the screening will cut down on that. Fingers crossed. Behind me is a glimpse of the screening, and the cypress trees. My outfit protected me very well.

WIW: North Face sweatshirt from NAS, Columbia hiking pants, new Crocs, garden gloves, and cheapo wraparound sunglasses.

JAileen, you might want to put something to keep your dogs out of the cypresses, even snow fencing, for example.

I have recently been experiencing intermittent allergy symptoms and suspect that my dog passing through a similar hedge during his neighborhood investigations might be the problem. He's not tall and not much of a jumper so we are going to put short green wire fencing along the base of the hedge.

Phoebe, thanks for the suggestion. We do have another fence to keep them out of the vegetable garden. I’m allergic to other trees, so I have to take allergy medicine, anyway.

Rachy, it’s that time of year, isn’t it? Normally I wouldn’t wear the hood up, but that with the glasses made me think of the Unabomber. Thank you for noticing the gloves. They come five pairs in a package from the big box store. I’d like some boutique coffee right about now.

Angie, thank you! Several years ago we were wrestling with the cypress, and I got scratches on my arm that turned all red and blotchy. I told my allergist and he said I did my own scratch test!

I'll have to post a garden gear / firewood-stacking outfit sometime; it's pretty much all I've worn this week. Alas, my gloves are hot pink and match nothing.

LaPed, thanks. I’m wearing what I’ve worn every coolish day for the last year. The Crocs are new, and of course, the gloves are too. When the garden really gets going, I switch to shorts and tees. I’d like to see your garden gear.

Coffee has antihistamine properties you know! Can I go to the airstream hipster joint since I was in the garden yesterday? (In white pants, which I kept clean and am wearing again today! ). It’s too early here for much, but I cleaned up the climbing roses.

Love the raised garden beds.

I think the hat says ‘MATH’...LOL!

Jenn, Carla is right. It says MATH. It was from a failed political campaign. I bought it to give to my mother who was a math major in college and, later, a statistician. But I ended up keeping it.

Carla, we’d love to have you! You, too, Jenn. I finished my spring cleanup last week. I’ve started sugar snap peas, spinach, carrots, lettuce, and parsley. And I’ve started my tomatoes inside. They’re about 1.5 inches tall.

Sal, thanks! One our dogs, a Jack Russell, has such a loud and persistent bark that we nicknamed him Bob Barker. He was a well known game show host.
