Last weeks fantasy vs. reality challenge really made me think about my life. The fact is that I am very happy with my career, my community and the places I work. I really don't envision myself wearing anything dressier, or more complicated. I think I have managed to put together a look that expresses my sense of who I am while still looking neat enough to maintain professional authority. I know it works, and my goal of coming across as Genuine and Composed has been successful.

I recently came across some Pinterest pictures of Sarah Harris. I mostly love her style which relies heavily upon jeans and simple well chosen tops and beautiful shoes. I could say in reality she comes closest to being a style icon for me except she wears a lot of distressed jeans. I can do faded jeans; maybe whiskered, but I draw the line at distressed. I love her simple, minimal details look. I think I have drifted a bit towards that, but not entirely. I still have my sweet spot for jewelry and some color. Oh, and she believes in wearing shoes for detail, and I am all for that!!! ( I know about the grey hair but my hair stylist says I have to wait at least another year before I try to go all grey). My fantasy style icons are people like Cate Blanchett and Princess Kate, but the reality is the way they dress is not at all something that matches my lifestyle. Sarah Harris dresses in a way I can pull off in my day to day life.

My style adjectives have been a perfect fit. I am very happy with all of the looks below. They were comfortable to wear, and I could move easily in them. I know the first look with the pencil skirt may appear harder to move around in, but it's not too bad. The skirt doesn't ride up when I sit, and it didn't spin around my waist, and I could sit on the floor and play UNO, or with action figures.

Most of these pics are taken with me either sitting or kneeling on the floor which is often the reality of my day. I have chairs some days, but not always.

1. Today I had an extra role. Not only was I doctor at work but I attended a seminar after work honoring a deceased colleague of my DH, so I was also professors wife. DVF wrap sweater, J Crew Pencil skirt, Beautifeel kitten heels. I like how the shoes match the temple pieces of my glasses. I received lots of complements for my look today and somehow I made it through my entire day in one outfit feeling comfortable and composed. Oh, and I am wearing hose because it was cold and I managed the entire day without a snag.

2. Hudson Jeans Nico Super Skinny in Vanished (Can you see that they have a burn out pattern of white spots?), BR Light Blue Sweater. I wore my light blue Candice Cooper leather sneakers today, but the pic may be in my socks. Once again, a great outfit for work. Comfortable and one that I could easily move in.

3. Equipment Sloane Crew and Ag Nikki Relaxed Skinny Jeans and my perforated black laceless oxfords. I threw on some grey pearls today for some bling.

4. J Crew Selvedge Toothpick Jeans, Via Spiga Sneakers, Striped tee of some sort, and J Crew white linen Regent Blazer. Somehow I managed to keep the blazer clean even though I worked with the younger kids. A small miracle.

5. J Crew stripe popover, white matchstick jeans, Birkenstock Gizeh's and Bobeau vest (I wore this out to run errands with a friend and my friend loved it, especially the vest which didn't photograph well, but looked great in person)

6. Wow it was warm today. High of 82 degree's. Equipment Colleen Eyelet shirt, Hudson Nico Super Skinny Jeans in Vanished, Vince long Cardigan in Husk, Any Lu Sandals. The cardigan was because everyone turned on the A/C. It was freezing indoors!

7. Farley's reality under the kitchen table. (He's always sitting on the floor, just like me, and he's always perfectly dressed - isn't he a lucky guy!)
