WIW: My Gma's jacket, does it work?

Working to find my niche....

Wide leg jeans, matchy leopard accessories and this suit jacket I received out of my Grandmothers estate. Please excuse the hair, as I am about to hop in the shower.

Would love to know if this works or if I should switch something up before heading out. Intended use is MOTG.

ETA: After getting some shower related clarity, this doesnt work to my eye. I am working on a new outfit but can anyone help me articulate why the look/proportions are off here?

I don't see a thing wrong with it. The jacket fits great, pants are about PPL and fit great and I think the matchy matchy belt and shoes are cute. Why do you think is off?

I guess I was feeling the jacket was too long? Or the waist nip of the jacket didnt work with the trouser jeans and would be better with a skirt? I still havent come up with something else and a YES vote form Angie and Zap are a amazing in my book so I am putting it back on and running out the door!

I like it -- you are playing with a long torso look, which is maybe what looks off to your eye? You look like you have a fairly high waist, and your jeans and top come lower than that, making your top and bottom look almost equal. I think the jacket is essential, because it breaks up that horizontal line and changes things up.

Sarah I think I can see what you think is off, and it has to do with the flare of the way your gma's blazer has at the bottom and the flare of your denim. Maybe you could try this lovely blazer with a straight leg fit instead? Usually a blousy top matches well with a fitted bottom in that it keeps the proportions true, so the same should apply here where the flare of the topper would offset a more fitted bottom. Hope this helps!

The blazer IS long. The short rise lengthens the body. Both these factors make your torso look longer. I personally love the look of a long torso. It's elegant. My thumbs are up! And high five, Ceit!

I ADORE this on you and would love to copy. The blazer looks beautifully tailored and the colour is rich on you. LOVE it with the booties and belt and turtleneck. It's a very "Urban Prince" look...welcome to the club, if you would like to join!!

I also think it would look fab with a slimmer, straight leg pant. Not better, just a bit different.

Looks fine. I think it's just the wet hair - the lack of visual volume at the top.

I love this, Sarah! And having something from your grandmother that also makes you look fab is a double bonus! If you still feel "off," you could try with straight leg and boots. I, however, am digging wide legs these days!

Thanks all, I had a lovely day in this outfit today with a high happiness factor.

Ceit -- Yes, the long torso, you nailed it! and....

Angie, & Zap -- I now plan to call it the elegantly long torso These are my lowest rise jeans so for fun I decided to measure the front rise and compare after lurking several times to the demin search post.... these are 8 3/4". WOW! I can't imaging trying to find 7" rise! No wonder 60 trial pairs are required

JuneBug -- i see what you mean regarding the paralling flares. In motion, I find this less visable than just standing still for the camera. I am planning to perhaps mix it up for next time.

RachyLou -- you crack me up. I am imagining a massive 80's hair on my head to add to the visual volume up top. Silly but the thought made me laugh.

Suz -- Really? I love the Urban Prince style. Usually I dont feel like I have quite the crispness or polish required to pull it off but I can cognitively remember thinking a blazer with jeans and a button down looked great when I was 15 yrs old so this type of dressing has been long in my heart. Is mixing in a little sporty or asymetric black arty ensembles a la Ann Demeulumeester allowed occasionally? SOLD!

Thistle -- I consider the belt to be my best purchase of 2012. It was 3X more expansive than another one I looked getting at but DH convinced me to get the one I really loved and it has been a super workhorse and lesson for me.

Beth Ann -- I felt great, but I will probably try with straight legs and boots too... just because I can.

Looks good! And you could play with so many variations - the jacket looks like a great fit to me.
