WIW: My attempt at Winter White!

So I thought I would get out of my *skinnies and top* rut and wear a dress for a change. The tights and jacket kept me warm enough. I think I should have added a belt. Or may be a scarf to bookend the tights. The outfit feels incomplete to me. I have attached my inspiration pic for you to analyze.

With this outfit and a make up buying spree (for my bro's wedding) that included trial of red lips, foundation, blush and mascara at one of the mall beauty stores, I turned way too many heads for comfort! Not good for doing errands and a school run! I had to explain to a few mum friends why I looked like I was coming from a party (because they couldn't stop staring!!)! Embarrassing!

Well, I actually think you did a brilliant job of recreating the inspiration look, and from what I can tell, it looks great on you. But it may be that all the contrast made people look a bit more than you felt comfortable with at this time. You know...I like your version even better than the original. Your dark hair would bring it cohesion. You might add a dark red cuff or earrings or something...but it's a fun change!

I can see why you turned heads in this -- it looks great! I could also see where it would be frustrating to get that much attention when it's not something you're looking for that particular day.

The outfit looks fine to me without adding anything else -- the drama from the high contrast speaks for itself. I could see a narrow belt working, though, like in the inspiration pic.

Neel - I am so sorry you were uncomfortable but you look gorgeous!! I like the whole outfit as is, but remember only your happiness factor counts. You know the minute you wear something out of the norm, the other mommies are going to stare. You are making them feel underdressed. But you look great!!

I LOVE the red tights and light dress, this looks really fresh and pretty. I don't think you look incomplete, although agree with Suz that a red accessory would not have been amiss.

I love your recreation of this and feel sad that it wasn't better received by those around you. I think meeting those who spoke up with a laugh and something like , "I am trying something new!" or something playful back might help instead of shrinking to the response. It really is a fabulous look and the responses you got were more a compliment than they sounded like....

Thank you ladies for your kind words! I think it was the outfit+make up combo that made heads turn! I needed to buy some make up stuff today. So for the first time in my life I bought foundation, some powder and blush. The SA applied them on me for a trial (and to show me how to use them!) and she did a great job! She also added red lipstick and it was beautiful! I didn't know make up could make such a huge difference! I am not used to make up and stares! So .... overall an uncomfortable experience! Lesson learnt!

I'm sure it wasn't a bad stare (what is she DOING?) but a complimentary stare (Wow, look at her, I can't take my eyes away), because you look beautiful. And if you're missing anything, it's a fence to sit on

Okay, I think I figured out why people were staring...you're supposed to wear this outfit to sit on top of a barbed wire fence in a cow pasture, like the model! I'm sure if you did that, no one would even notice!!

Heh, the first time my sister did my makeup for a photo shoot for her portfolio (she was in school to be a cosmetician at the time), my own mother didn't recognize me!
