WIW: Mother's Day Blouse

I returned the red ill fitting cropped trousers that my son had so generously bought me for Mother's Day and found instead this pretty little soft polka dot blouse. My son was all for me exchanging the trousers as he didn't want me to look "goofy".

This blouse is lined front and back but the flutter sleeves are sheer. It's so soft and light it's like wearing nothing! I've paired the navy and cream blouse with my black pencil midi skirt and for my urban edge, added my chunky Fly London sandals. If you've never tried the Fly London brand, I recommend trying them on - these are my second pair and they are extremely comfortable. Despite yesterday's comment about not wearing my necklaces as much, I've added a long gold tone necklace and my vintage cream croc bamboo handled handbag.

So what do you think? Proportions ok? How do you like the voluminous top with the pencil skirt (sort of a de-bomshell outfit I think). As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Wow, this is a stellar outfit! Love the polka dot blouse--so soft and flowy, and paired with fitted black pencil skirt and awesome black sandals (I want those!). I love how the cutouts on the sandals echo the dots on the blouse. And that vintage handbag is divine! The only thing I'm unsure about is the necklace--I don't think you need it since the outfit is so graphic and strong--the blouse could shine on its own, or perhaps a bolder choker or shorter pendant necklace? Maybe a black chain to match the pattern on your sandals? I don't know, I'm not very good with jewelry, but I feel like it should match the boldness of the rest of the outfit, or else leave it off altogether...

I didn't notice the necklace at first but I think it has a very flattering elongating effect, I love the proportions of the blouse and skirt together.

What a great outfit!! I love the blouse. I think you made the right decision to return the problematic pants. I'm not sure if you need the necklace. The blouse is so fab on its own.

It's really pretty and elegant and fun, and a nice change of silhouette.

Question...did the sleeves bug you throughout the day? Did you wear a coat over top?

I love the look of these sleeves but then when it comes time for a jacket or coat it gets into the "Fuss Factor" territory that Claire so aptly named...

Hmmmm....maybe a bold cuff instead of the necklace? Or if going with a necklace, my black vintage beads instead?

Suz - so far I'm finding the sleeves fine. No jacket over top today as it's already warm and going up to +30 celcius. I love the light, almost "fairy" like sleeves. I think it could be annoying with a jacket on top though but I don't intend to wear it that way.

Wow, Shannon - I think this might be one of my faves on you! That could be partly because this is firmly in my neutral dark/cream territory, but the main part is because this is so darn cute on you! Super flattering with the pencil skirt and volume in the blouse.

I think the pendant is perfect and adds the hint of vertical line to break up the blouse volume. If you add a bangle, I personally would stick with a wide gold cuff (but I'm matchy like that).

Plonk! (That's me falling to the floor from your fabness). This is a terrific look, and a new one, too! I love it's balance of soft and structure, and the graphic, but simple print of the top and shoes. Brava! I think the necklace is important to creating a bit of vertical line, but black beads would work, too!

You inspire me! I usually pass up those tops, because at 5'1" and busty, I thought I'd look like a mushroom. I'm going to look at them again with more open eyes. I think this ranks as #1 of all the outfits I've seen you post!

Wowie Zowie! Flutter sleeves and midil skirts should be a spring/summer staple fo you! (I think a regular length pencil skirt would make the proportions a less flattering 50/50.) Hmmm...I wonder how this top would look with capris or cropped slim pants?

I love everything about this (and have worn the same silhouette this past winter, in dark colors). High five for spotting that shirt instead of the red pants. Zap is right - I think the necklace brings it all together.

Thank you for mentioning the Fly Londons, too. I have drooled over them on Amazon for quite some time, but they are so pricey and hardly ever have reviews online.

All I can say - WOW! I was usually bypassing these blouses in the store but I may need to reconsider thanks to you.
My only conscern would be how easy it is ot layer over it because I may freeze to death in our AC office without another layer on top.

AJ - I'm going to try this blouse with my slim fitting black clams and these same sandals - when I do, you'll have to let me know if it works!

Rae - what's interesting about these Fly London's is they are $245 on Amazon and yet I found them in our local Winner's in early April for $59.99! So definitely check around, you may find an amazing deal somewhere.

Sveta - Suz wondered about he layering capabilities too so I'll try it on with a jacket when I get home and then let you know if it works with these sleeves.

OOoooooh! Like very much! Fun new shape and I am most definitely going to try to copy if I find the opportunity. Leave no style untouched is a good lesson.

I would think it would be great with black clams, your bootcut denim or white. And try the black necklace at some point too. Fun top!

I like this so much better than the red trousers! I wore a similar shaped top on Mother's Day - it's comfy, forgiving and flattering. Love the black and white combo with this silhouette.
