WIW: Mostly Skirts - YouLookFab Forum

Skirts have been my go-to this summer, including some of the swooshy midi variety in today’s ensemble. I don’t own any summer button-downs, so I can’t duplicate exactly, but I’ve been wearing my skirts like crazy.

#1-2 Black cotton midi with sandals and two differently-shaped striped tops

#3-4 Hi-lo midi with top from #1 and über-casual t-shirt (for Disneyland. I usually cut the sleeves off tees like this, and will be doing so for this one shortly)

#5-6 Not midi skirts, but Wild West cowboy boots with skirt and dress (#6 is my favorite. Every time I think I might be over this denim skirt, it surprises me.)

I like the wrap top with the asymmetric skirt the best! And in my experience, cowboy boots are the most comfortable walking shoes (that aren't sandals). I had some a few years ago and they were good for 6 miles, easily:)

rachylou, I do! And I have the flat sandals. I don't have any lightweight button-downs, though!

suntiger, they are surprisingly comfortable. I wore #5 for a music festival where we stood to watch three different bands over the course of a long afternoon.

fashiontern, pretty much everything comes out of my closet. I have low tolerance for slackers!

Like the Season, I need to come up with better summer formulas, as well. See my comment to Angie below!

Angie, I still don't feel like I have a bead on great summer formulas that work for me. My hi-lo maxi is the one piece that I'm really happy with. The hi-lo skirt is a close second, but I struggle with the tie waist adding bulk (maybe I should just cut it off!). Before next summer, I should spend some time thinking about what really might work for activities like theme parks, beach, city, home, etc.

I have a midi length black skirt that I really should wear more this summer. In addition to cutting off the sleeves of t-shirts, I also usually cut the crewneck to be a v-neck. Your cowboy boots look great on you.

Sara, my husband is horrified that I cut the sleeves off of tees. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Jenn, have you tried shift dresses that finish on or below the knee? Have you tried COS?

Angie, COS doesn’t appear to go up to my size? I’m guessing some of their oversized fits might still work, but I haven’t wanted to experiment without a store nearby. Maybe next summer when I get to LA! I like the structural integrity of a woven shift, but I do struggle with surrendering the waist, and also finding those dresses in a shape/size that accommodates my hips.

My faves are 1 ( that top nice waistline with that skirt) and 5. Love the dress with the cowboy( cowgirl?) boots. I have a sugar eye for such boots- don't think Down Under urban me has enough wearing opportunities for such but they remain a fun fantasy image x

JenniNZ, when I first got my western boots, I felt a little fake wearing them, but I told myself, "I live in COLORADO. I can own that." I may not work on a ranch, but I do at least drive by several on my way to mall.
