Went back to Nordie's to get BF's sport coat alteration fixed for the 3rd time. Ugh. Had lunch at Edison first. Yummy.
Wanted to wear the skirt to try an H&M top on with it shopping later. I had this outfit as a try-on idea a few months back (after Angie's edgy with tube skirt post) but never wore it. Figured today I'd put it through its paces out in the world. http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....e-elements
In light of the recent hard edge soft edge discussion - would this be either one? I'm still trying to figure that one out for myself!

Fantastic outfit, Mo! One of your best all season.

On the hard vs. soft edge thing -- I am going to take a stab at this, but I might be wrong.

I would say this look falls somewhere near the middle of the continuum.

It has some hard edged elements -- black, the booties, the cutout tank (mainly because it's black...not sure it would read "hard" in another colour).

But also -- the overall fluid cut of the top, the knit tube skirt, the hits of white, and your long wavy hair are softer elements -- these add "softness" to the edge.

The ensemble itself is neither hard nor soft -- it can only be read in context, on the wearer. Similar to how colours can't really be seen in isolation but only in relation to other colours.

Is this right? I have no idea. Maybe Angie will correct me.

I do know she'll agree you look fab!

Thanks gals! I don't know how hard or soft . . . but it was great for the long car trip and still being presentable while out and about in the 'big city' (hee hee). Sometimes the 3 hours in the car can just kill an otherwise great outfit idea, ya know?

EDIT: and it helps to shop wearing what you might be pairing things with. I decided to pull the trigger online on both the H&M jacket and wrap blouse in the colors I want. Fingers crossed!

Holy gorgeousness! I love love love all elements. The shoes and neckline make it hard, but the flowy fabric of the shirt soften it. On the likert scale I'd give it a 4 "somewhat hard edge". Would love to hear Angie's perspective.

My two cents: the outfit is hard edge, although your hair can be soft edge. Still the hair reads here as rocker so the overall effect is hard edge and fab!

This is one of my favorites on you, ever! Should be repeated often. I'm going with a little closer to the hard edge side of the spectrum -- clean lines, high contrast, cutout in the top -- but the shoes really complete the outfit. I love it.

Wow. Amazing outfit. Each piece is great and all of it together is fantastic. I vote more hard edge than soft because of the neckline of the top and the peep-toe booties, both in black.

Thx Tex! I thought about that same thing later last night. I'm still trying to work out how to have that bit of edge in a super casual environment. This was worn in downtown Tampa, not our little city of 3,000. I think it would be 'too much' here. Gets me to thinking if living in a city automatically opens up more fashionable moments due to the environment around you.
Interesting to see where we all put it on the sliding edge scale. I aspire to harder edge but feel I end up in the center lol.

Mo, I can so relate to that issue of dressing for trips into the city or just dressing for "here" (about the same population as you). I routinely seem to visit other small towns and the dress is a little more varied due to more tourists, but still, it would be really noticeable to wear certain outfits. I think harder edge will get more attention almost automatically, esp. in a smaller town. But so would a lot of more on trend styles I suppose - since most everyone else is wearing flip flops, logo tees and baggy shorts.

Mo, this is a fantastic outfit, one of my favorites of yours. I think that the booties really elevate the outfit. Those were a great find!

I would say that this look is somewhere near the middle of the soft-hard continuum, but I would say that the booties, the angular cutout in the tank, and the predominance of black put it slightly more into the hard-edge category.

Fabulous outfit! You look chic, sophisiticated and fashion forward. I like that the cutout top mirrors the cutout booties. Everything fits beautifully and the length/fluidity of the top works perfectly over the skirt. Gorgeous.
