Don't be dissuaded to wear maxis! You'll find a lot of negative comments about maxis on this particular site but maxis are beloved all around the world. Just google "celebrity maxi dresses" and you'll be shocked to see how many fashion-forward women have been wearing them for ages! I especially love Nicole Ritchie's style and she wears maxi dresses almost exclusively. The maxi dress has been designed by Osca de La Renta YSL, Dior, and has been immortalized by Halston. Who here is going to argue with Halston???
Personally, I think they serve their purpose best in the summer especially because they cover a lot of surface and I like to show arms and decolletage when I wear them. They're hard to pull off in the winter, they're hard to match with heavy tops and coats and scarves, that's when it can get overwhelming. I've had some of the best moments of my life while wearing maxi dresses because they make me feel beautiful and when I feel beautiful all good things happen. Every time I put on a colorful maxi I'm transported to the mediterranean seaside!
And you're right, it's hard to get drama with a short skirt, sorry. Work it!
