WIW: Low failure formula - YouLookFab Forum

(or at least that's what I think.) I was debating on posting these. I've been pretty good about taking daily outfit photos to get a handle on my spring/summer dressing. It's pretty much the same as last year but I thought it might help when I eventually post some K/R on comfy shoes. Marmee posted about shorts so I included some of mine. I feel much more polished in long bottoms but sometimes it's just too hot for jeans. DayVies also posted about "basics" and I think all of mine qualify for that category.

Thanks for looking. Comments/improvements welcome!

Photo 1: I returned the floral top. I really liked it but it was 100% poly not practical for summer. The grey khakis with the denim topper was a loser. I think that topper needs lighter bottoms. I'm not sure why I bought it (it was on clearance--ugh!)
Photo 2: The yellow shorts are the shortest I would go in public and only for something casual like a soccer game.
Photo 3: The button down looked better in my mind. Perhaps semi-tuck next time? Love my new RM bag. It goes with everything

Rolled bf jeans look great on you. I especially like them with dolman sleeve tops and you posted a few. This is definitely a go-to great formula for you.

Looks like you are all set for summer! I especially love what looks to be pink flat sandals in the second series of photos. They really add a fresh spark to your look.

Wow! What a great set of outfits. I went back several times looking for favorites, but I like them all! I will say that I love the light blue shorts and the white tee. Simple but classic.

I love the denim topper. Did you consider keeping it for white bottoms? What brand is it? I totally understand about the polyester top. I am returning one for that very reason.

KellyGirl, everything looks so wonderful! You have a casual style, but it is still polished. And your hair looks absolutely great in each and every photo. Plus, you have a gorgeous smile. :^)

My favorites are #2 in the first set and #5 in the second set. You look magnificent in the shorts!

Love the lot, Kelly! Totally worth posting, this is great warm weather inspiration. Which part of the khaki outfit was the issue, the pants or the topper? I think it looks fine, you've just got different color saturation levels going there which might feel off; a non-nude colorful shoe could be enough to sort that out. Short shorts look fine to me, and I vote tuck in one panel for the shirt+shorts outfit in #3 (like this).

I don't understand all the polyester summer tops I am seeing. Ugh, ugh and ugh. Otherwise it was a pretty top.

@greycat: Thank you. I was tickled to find the white/neon sandals last summer. They aren’t super comfy but I can wear them for most of the day without trouble.

@Marmee: Thank you. The light blue shorts are actually mint green. They are Gap BF khakis from last summer. I bought my normal size and they are super baggy--as in won’t stay up without a belt. The denim topper is Gap too. I found it in MP on clearance for something like 15 dollars or less. I couldn’t resist. I will definitely try pairing it with white bottoms.

@Gigi: Thanks! It’s funny because I was going to apologize for my unruly mop. I’ve been growing it out and it’s driving me bananas. It looks sooooo messy to me yet I get compliments about it often. I must be missing something.

@Aida: Thanks! I think the whole outfit just looked dull to me. I bought grey khakis thinking they would be super versatile and a nice light color for summer but they just don’t float my boat. Perhaps I will try them with a white top instead or with the white/bright sandals like you suggest. Thanks for the JCrew visual. Not sure I can pull that one off with out getting some strange looks though. I live in the fashion boondocks

@Susan: Thanks! I love shoes. I just wished all of mine loved my feet! I know! Fabrication is one of the first things I look at before I even try anything on. I grabbed the floral shirt in a hurry and was fooled by the fabric’s hand. It was deceitful. The polyester fooled me. I can usually tell pretty easily. All I know is whoever designs all of these summer tops in polyester obviously isn’t the same person who wears them! I’d gladly spend a few extra dollars for a breathable fabric!

The gray khakhis would looks lovely with the striped blazer in 1. Not that it looks as bad as you think it does! But since you are craving for a higher contrast, I think the blazer from 1 could do the trick.

I like the button down over the shorts too. Its a very chic laid back look. The shirt does the job of debombshelling the shorts IMO. And I very new bag! A fav collection of outfits overall!

Kelly, you rock BF jeans like nobody's business! I love the chevron black and white top in the first set and pink gingham top in the last one. Have you tried grey khakis with a white top?

These are all great looks, Kelly - exactly what I would wear ; )!

I esp like the striped blazer, eiffel tower, and the last two, and I don't think the button down looks bad at all. In fact, I really like it. You could try Aida's suggestion, but that never seems to work IRL for me - I always feel like it ends up being awkward from the side/back. I think it's great as is. I have that denim-colored moto, too, and I often wear it with a striped breton shirt (more white than blue) and dark denim skinnies. Maybe you just need more contrast with the bottoms, either white or dark, and it seems like some white would brighten it up.
