WIW: Leather and Lace

I wore this to work on Friday and I'm not 100% sure what to think of it. I got a lot of compliments on how cute I looked (and one of my coworkers said she loved seeing what I wear to work every day), but my boss definitely gave me the once over, so I'm thinking I'm wondering if this may have been a touch inappropriate for work. I also belted the cardigan as well (I'm not sure if it's obvious in the pic).

Dress - Modcloth
Cardigan - Mango
Belt - off an Antonio Melini dress
Boots - Born

What do you ya'll think? Too much for work? Or could it be that my boss isn't use to something like this?

Super cute! I think your boss may not be used to the booties with the dress--that's what I'm guessing. You look great. I love the edge the booties add.

Thanks Rute and Kellygirl. That's what I was hoping. I'm not normally an edgy person, but I fell in love the boots when I saw them.

Looks gorgeous. Need more info on the boss and the type of work to rule it out. No jobs that come to mind would preclude it in Australia - unless you are on a conservative board of governors or maybe the principal of a school and even then..... depends. Is it the type of work or the the type of boss that gave you the doubt.
The dress is gorgeous and really suits you but he boots and socks make the outfit. I wish I was young enough to wear it!!

Hard to tell the length from this angle, but it looks good from here. In my workplace this might be considered somewhat casual. I've worn more casual, but I like to press my luck like that.

I am in love with the outfit. Black and green look so nice togehter. And flared dress of all, so pretty and feminine.

Regarding your boss' reaction, do I remember correctly you work at school? I guess the environmental norm would play some role in his/her reaction? Lace, leather, black booties.. I'm just trying to find some explanation.

I think as a variation you might try black tights and I bet the vibe (and subsequent reaction) would be a lot more toned down.

@Archer and Ornella - Yes, I work at a university, Our office is more business casual. I wouldn't have worn something like this when I was a grad student, but our dress code was much more casual. Even wearing a denim skirt would cause people to ask why I was so dressed up.

You're right Ornella, I think dark hose would probably tone it down a little bit.
