WIW: lace hoody & pencil skirt

Today I'm wearing the lace hoody I posted a while back with a pencil skirt, as suggested by Beth Ann.
I'm teaching a class on making this skirt tonight, and I like to wear what we're making. It will be a long day, so I'll be back later to check in again.

Lace hoody (made by me)
Ivory scoop neck long-sleeved tee (Caslon)
Pencil skirt, gray with embroidered vines (made by me)
Gray Mary Janes (Pikolinos)
Necklace, which isn't visible--it's off to one side in the photo--oops (Brighton)

I love the skirt, and its a good idea to wear what your making, so they can see what they're going to make. I love the pattern. and it looks so soft!

Simple and elegant. I like how the white tee shows off the lace pattern of the jacket. I crave a little color though--perhaps just a brighter lip? You are amazing me with your sewing skills--you sew well enough to teach! Awesome, Firecracker!

Firecracker, please don't take this the wrong way, but since you sew, might you hem the skirt up a slight bit? I've seen how your other skirts flatter your runner's legs.

Thanks, all. I didn't want to skew the comments, but I will admit that I am not crazy about this outfit, and I'm not sure why.

Kellygirl, you may be onto something with the observation about color. I tried on my dark red lace-up pumps with it, but they didn't add that much. I thought, What would Angie do? And I realized I have no citron in my closet--LOL! But seriously, maybe I should try a different skirt with the hoody, like a bright skirt (that I don't have). Fuschia might be fun, huh?

Liz, I don't take it the wrong way at all. Are you ready for a good laugh? I actually took 4 inches off the length of this skirt last night before wearing it today! I've had the skirt about 8 or 10 years and used to wear it with sweater twin sets. I am really stumped by skirt lengths and silhouettes; I want to be able to wear midi skirts, but maybe this one is the wrong shape for that length. Or maybe it's just the wrong length to wear with the hoody; maybe I'll try it with other tops before cutting it off more.

Fantastic hoodie!

I don't mind the length of the skirt, but with this outfit, I would go with either a shorter or fitted longer skirt and different footwear. Maybe booties?

The current length of the skirt needs a more fitted top with a higher waist, IMO. For example, a button down shirt, a wide belt, and some pumps.
