Heh. Way simplistic, but my family always associated Southern = Cantonese speaking (and maybe Fukienese), Northern = Mandarin speaking. Of course, my maternal grandmother actually is Fukienese by birth.... but married into a Hubei family and spent a good amount of time in Chongqing (as did many of her generation) and Sichuan. My paternal grandmother was from Hunan, which is also kind of border between North and South. Nobody REALLY northern, like Beijing or Harbin... So it's all relative.

(Also, holy digression Batman. Sorry to everyone else reading this thread... )

I really like this. Love the patterns and colors.

Love your maximal style. We saw lion dancers in the mall on Saturday. Wonderful show presented by the Chinese Cultural Center children.

Yay, lion dances! Those are always good.

Ayee-yah (as my friend from HK would say) -- looking good!

That's how I turn any language into Cantonese... just add that long 'ahh' to the end of everything, hehe

I love your outfit--those pants are just fantastic!

You are such a natural at this maximalism thing. I want to see more!

Wow, this is a fantastic maximal outfit and looks wonderful on you! Love, love, love this kitchen sink thing. More! More!

Of course that is how I feel at a Chinese New Year's feast, too. More, more! Bring it on!

More is more! Not doing it right if you aren't doing it gaudy

New Year's is no time for good taste.

Perfection all around.
