WIW: Just wearing the dress

I purchased this dress on a whim in March- thinking it would be fun for Summer occasions. It’s a slight wild card for me - but it was on a heavy discount/final sale.

Today I am working from home and decided to just wear it. It’s comfortable and easy care so why not.

I am a bit short of footwear options for the dress so any new sandals I find need to work with it. It has two blues, black, golden yellow, blush and off white. So I think one of these colours, What style of sandals would you choose? I want them to go with other things too.

I will try belting it - finds below for my current shoes that I think work. I don’t see it with tan/ brown at all.

What about some kind of metallic especially golden sandals? There should be a reasonable choice?
Such a pretty dress, good brand that I have only ever looked admiringly at! Expensive in the boutiques I frequent, and I don’t wear dresses enough to justify. Happy that you got it on sale and that you like dresses. It looks gorgeous on you!

Oh, it's beautiful on you Sally! Love it just the way you are wearing it! For sandals, you could really try almost anything. I am not sure what styles feel fresh. I didn't really buy sandals last year.

I usually have a few Christmas lunches, drinks etc at this time of the year (prizegivings etc) Maybe next year I will wear it to those?

Yes sadly a local boutique was closing, it was $135 which I thought was a good deal.

Yes it would be perfect for those sorts of events. It’s such a shame if we don’t get any of those this year, I will miss them, always enjoy such things.
I remember now you saying about that boutique closing which is a pity, that was indeed a good price for that dress, I would have expected between $200-300 which always gives me pause. Because I would have to wear 40 times at $200 to get to my preferred CPW of $5 or below, and none of my 14 dresses have been worn that many times! Only one sheer floaty tunic from 2013 has.
I would have paid more for my mother of the bride dress but in the end I didn’t have to

Thanks Suz! Here there seem to be a lot of the following
- slides
- studded chunky sandals
- sports styles with white or black soles
- Dad sandals or variations
- braided flat sandals

I think I will go with a more classic style but in a brighter colour - leaning to mustard or yellow - that would work with this dress, denim, navy and tie in with my yellow bag as a complement.

Thanks Jenni - yes it is a shame about all the occasions - I do wear dresses a lot - but even so I doubt this one will get to 30 wears if I am honest. Whereas my jeans added in winter and even my bright cords would be 30 and 20 in six months.

The dress looks great on you! I would get something near the color of your hair. My new favorites are Mephisto Helen. Sooooooo comfy.

Thanks JAileen. I do have two pairs of tan sandals already - my total collection of sandals is below (ranging from Birkenstocks to two pairs of dressy sandals). I love tan - but thinking of something less earthy this time.

Your mi Piaci or green sandals would work, but I like the idea of yellow sandals for you, maybe with a teeny wedge if you don’t want flats. You could also do blue. It wouldn’t have to be an exact match with either of the blues in the dress, as long as it’s in the same family

What a beautiful dress! Good luck to get a great NZ brand on discount.
I love it styled with the sneakers, and could see it with white Birkenstock’s or slides. Do you search Styletread like JenniNZ? 1000’s of shoes!!

lozz_oz - I have had a look but am hoping to support someone local this time. Feel sad for our retailers here who are battling in the lockdown.

Stagf - the green sandals sort of work I agree. I don't like the tan with the dress - not quite sure why. I haven't added sandals (except for birkenstocks) for two years so am open to a new pair - if I can find the right ones.

That's a really pretty dress in a lovely fabric. The sneakers look great with the dress As others have suggested heavier sandals such as birkenstocks would look good but a more elegant sandal would also just elevate the dress to a more dressed up look.

Beautiful dress on you and you can change the vibe with your footwear. As suggested gold sandals, white birks, the sneakers you are wearing, even black strappy sandals for evening would all work. I think you are going to get a lot of use out of it!

Oh, that’s gorgeous! I love the print, as I am a huge orchid fan. It looks wonderful on you. I’d go for flat metallic sandals for casual wear, and maybe a heeled style to dress it up. I like it with the sneakers too!

Love that dress! Such a great print and looks amazing on you! I am terrible about keeping dresses for "good", which means they rarely get worn. I bet your black heeled sandals would look good with it for fancier occasions.

Gorgeous dress! I like having casual and dressier metallic shoes for summer, they go with everything. I would go with the metal you wear most in jewelry.

Cat2 - I mostly wear gold and agree that metallic will be the most versatile. There are a few options around.

Thanks Robin - our lockdown ended today - earlier than I anticipated. Our vaccine rates are now almost 90 percent first dose 12 yrs and up so they are relaxing restrictions. So I am actually going out with friends tomorrow and will wear this with the black sandals.

It's beautiful and suits you perfectly! The pattern is very interesting--you would think it'd be over the top (an animal print + a large floral) but it comes across as eye-catching and gorgeous! I love that shade of blue, too, and it looks fab on you. Yay for lockdown ending and going out with friends in a beautiful dress!
