WIW: Joy sparking jacket

This floral jacket was love at first sight! I love the color and the floral pattern is subdued enough to be neutral for me.
It also seems to go with all of my denim washes which is great because I can’t seem to leave the house with any of my plain denim jackets paired with usual denim bottoms… I also bought the matching lantern style pants which I also love ( not shown.)
Gap factory horseshoe jeans (pic3) are a new silhouette for me. I haven’t cut the tags but like them a lot. Wondering how long this trend will last or whether that really matters if I like them!
2025 has been off to a rotten start for me but the routine of checking the forum is grounding. Thank you Angie and everyone! I managed to get to AZ for a few days after my father passed away and before my mom’s health took a dive—managed to scrounge together an outfit for a casual dinner—having forgotten what I had (and what fit) at the house after a long absence (pic4.) Pic 5 are of the Chelsea boots that are at less than a $1 per wear. DH actually said he’s tired of seeing them but they go with everything (at least in my opinion!)
My mom is in hospice at home which is good but depressing. DD finished nursing school and is considering Kaiser or Swedish (Oregon or Seattle.) I’m working from home for the time being. Today was my first outing in ages for a long needed haircut. Hope you all are well!

So sorry to learn of your hard year - but congratulations on fledging your daughter successfully. It’s important to make time to take care of yourself. A little retail therapy and a haircut is a good idea.

Oh what a great jacket! Back in the 80s I had a floral denim jumper that I just loved. Lately I’d been looking for a floral denim of some kind, and I found this shirt at Macy’s. It’s not denim, though, it’s lyocell.

Sorry about your parents. My mother turned 100 last year and seems to be fading away right before my eyes. It’s very difficult to see.

Thanks, Carla, Carol & Jaileen! The jacket is very 80s—probably why I find it so appealing! I had a lot of floral back then and it still makes my heart flutter. Gap seems to do the blue floral every once in awhile—I have the dress from a few years ago too. Love the tencel floral top, Jaileen. We’re practically twins! (The jacket is a tencel blend too so it’s not as stiff as a 100% cotton jacket.)
I’m fortunate that my parents have been in relatively good health well into their late 80s. I spent a lot of time with my dad the past 5-6 years which was nice because I hadn’t while my kids were growing up and was busy with other things. Same with my mom.
She had a lot of life left in her if her body had cooperated but spontaneous back fractures from osteoporosis is not good. Makes me appreciate the few extra pounds that menopause has deposited on my frame. She seems very peaceful now and not in pain. For that, I am grateful.

I'm so sorry you lost your father and are losing your mother now. It sounds like a very tough start to the year. Such good news about your daughter's future plans!

That floral denim jacket is sublime! What a wonderful piece. I can't wait to see the matching lantern pants. All the joy from head to toe!

Love you other outfits so much too. Your pants in 3 are sooo great! Angie can probably speak to how long the trend might last. But I think they're wonderful. I French roll/cuff wide leg pants to make them into almost harem style pants. But not sure if you would enjoy that look?

Kelly, I'm so sorry to hear about your tough year. It sounds really sad and stressful. Very sad news about your dad. And as for your mother -- you have been such a loving and attentive daughter to her, and I know it is a worry to be at this stage with a parent.

Love your new floral denim jacket! What a great idea. You look terrific in every outfit. As for the horseshoe shaped pant, I do think it will have some longevity. Barrel trousers have been a fringe trend for at least 5 years and they seem to be roaring into the mainstream this year.

Sorry you've had a rough time as of late. I have been there and understand what you are going through. These stages of life are not easy but you'll get through it. Sending you some hugs!

#1 is a pretty floral denim jacket, the floral print adds such fun texture to an outfit.

#3 horseshoe jeans look great and I like the layering with the long sleeves and short sleeve hoodie on top too. I wouldn't worry about how fast the trends change, if you like the jeans, where them and enjoy! I personally find all the variety in denim right now really refreshing. Instead of having to swap different colors of the same styles of denim now I can simply change up the silhouette and the outfit vibe is considerably different even when the top half is exactly the same. It makes dressing fun and simple! Just pick what style you're in the mood for that day.

#4 pretty classic outfit for dinner. The crossover front adds a lovely bit of texture, the vneck is very flattering, and your arms look amazing in sleeveless tops!

#5 those boots are a workhorse for a reason, they are lovely! The color looks like they can go with anything!

Nursing is a challenging program, congrats to DD!

Kellygirl I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your dad and your mom's challenges. It sounds really tough but from the looks of it you are managing with plenty of grace.

I know that "what clothes do I have in AZ and do any of them actually fit?" dance well but the result is never half so good for me. Glad you were able to take advantage of the opportunity for a nice outing.

Loooove those chelsea boots, your husband is wrong and he can just avert his eyes if he needs to!

You look fabulous despite a hard year. So sorry about your dad . Take care of yourself! I will be 78 this year and seeing lots of old friends or their spouses die., including my sister who lost her husband to Covid about a year ago. We went to his funeral and both got Covid. We were not able to be much help.

She is working on downsizing now so she can sell the house and move into a small apartment. It is part of a larger place or nursing home. But she can go to daily mass.

The grand children are getting older and we are thinking of moving back to Kansas. We still have fiends there.
