WIW: jacket challenge: equestrian style

This Cabi jacket temporarily fulfilled my Smythe jacket covet last year. It's cutaway and longer in back. It is a bulkier weight wool mix and I feel like it makes me look bigger than I am in the mirror. What do you think?

Nice jacket! I do see why you think it makes you look bulky, but I don't think it's because of the jacket! I think it's because of the jeans that have scrunched up over your boots that lends a feel of non existant bulk! Have you tried the same top and jacket with skinnies that fold, or cropped pants/ leggings? Probably that would balance out these proportions visually.

Ooh, I like the little pattern peeking out of the sleeves! You're very small so it would be easy to be overwhelmed by a jacket, but I think this one fits great! It's a good length, and a little relaxed but not super boxy.

I don't see the bulk, but how you feel in something when you put it on is just as important as how it looks in a picture. The jacket makes quite a statement because of its shape and pattern, so you might feel sleeker if you let it be the star and used Angie's column of color as a backdrop. And, for some reason, I'm not really liking the idea of scrunching on this particular jacket (and normally I'm a BIG fan of scrunching!)--it seems at odds with the dramatic lines of the jacket, somehow.

Love the jacket! I also do not see any bulkiness. I have been looking for a cutaway riding jacket like that for ages - cannot afford the smythe, and everything else seems to be too long/low for me.

I love it! At first I just had to open the thread when I read you and equestrian in the same sentence This reminds me of my own Willow & Clay that I love - and I'm about as equestrian style as you are. So there ya go - it can work, and does! I don't see any 'bigness' here by the way.

I am scratching my head at that one. You look streamlined and terrific to me. I love this outfit and would wear it in a heartbeat. A HEARTbeat, I say!!

I wonder why it feels bulky, though? Might be worth analyzing a bit.

You all are so sweet! I am liking this more now... I think the issue is that this is heavier and less drapey than what I usually wear even my woven jackets an that makes it feel bulky but I can see that is really isn't. It is warm and comfy for sure. Will need to find some other styling options that aren't so casual. Any ideas?

I love the jacket & it does not make you look bigger. I bought a Smythe jacket last year that I loved & returned because hubby didn't like it. I wish I hadn't now but his dislike on an expensive item made me think that perhaps I didn't need it or have anywhere to wear it. I should have kept it.

I think it would look great with riding boots unless you think that is too much of a costume. Also with skinny pants or jodhpurs but again maybe too costumey?

Perhaps tall boots that aren't riding boots & skinny pants that aren't jodhpurs would look less costumey. I think tall boots would look great.

LOVE the jacket! Yes it is certainly a more rigid fabrication than you've been wearing, but that's part of why I love it so ^^ Less casual styling ideas:

- slim trousers, printed blouse OR fine gauge tee, tall sleek boots (do you have any of those though? hmm)
- all/almost the same shade pencil skirt, tights, oxfords, top
- over a sheathe
- might work with slouchy trousers and a very fitted top

For less casual, dark slim trousers, maybe more of a monochrome look with color in accessories. Ralph Lauren look but not too horsy. For those who can wear sparkle to work, or certainly for dressy casual, a thin knit neutral color lurex sweater or T.

I like Aida's ideas.

I think this looks fantastic on you, and I also fail to see bulk. I agree that it's probably the substantial, relatively stiff fabric that's giving you that feeling. I have that in a couple of jackets too, but pictures helped convince me that it was *feel* that was bulky, not *look. *
