WIW: Jacket challenge: challenging jacket, take 2

The j. crew catalog arrived, causing me to think maybe their clothes look better if you stand in lethargic poses like the models. Here's my second attempt at styling this difficult (for me) j. crew hacking jacket. I found this cheap photo print top at F21. Wearing with old black trousers and Danskos.

Sorry about the vacuum - remodel frenzy is causing lots of dust!

Hehe, I like your lethargic pose Una! That blazer is great, especially with that top. I do like your regular pose too....it helps to have uniformity across the poses so I can compare your outfits.

I really like that jacket, especially teamed up with that top. I've recently purchased a red blazer and have been thinking of ways to style it.

I think this jacket is beyond gorgeous on you - and I wanna see it with your silver skinnies. Please don't give up on it yet. But as Suz has mentioned, if you're not lovin' it, you're just not lovin' it!

I'm kind of on the fence here... I like the jacket with that top, but not that jacket, top and bottom together. The colorful top with jacket reads "summer", while black pants are heavy for them.

Any other tops in deep, saturated colors to try this with? I'm with Rita, I cannot possibly see how this jacket should give you so much trouble, I think it's just a case of finding the right thingSSSS from your closet to wear it with.

Sitting here at doctor's office it occurred to me that with such a classic cut in the jacket perhaps you'd feel better pairing with out-n-out uwp items. Your new boots come to mind.

Ornella, HAHA! It is kind of funny that my struggles tend to be with classic items. This jacket is actually quite a heavyweight wool herringbone, so it's interesting that it looks summery to you...

I do like the color, but I wonder if this is just too classic a style for me?

It looks great but I understand what you are saying about it being too classic for you - I thought of your silver skinnies & it would look great with denim too imo.

Have you tried pairing it with your olive cargo pants (if you still have those?)? I really love purple with olive, and it would give you a nice juxtaposition of the UWP with the classic J. Crew herringbone thang. Maybe I have that combo on the brain because I wore a pretty classic J. Crew wool pinstriped jacket today (gray with cream pinstripes) with a plaid shirt and olive cargo pants, and new Frye charcoal harness boots :).

I have a poison eye for different-colored cuffs on jackets, especially brightly colored ones (makes me think of the '80s, also seems to break up the lines somehow), but I can see the need to scrunch the sleeves to sort of "edge up" the classic jacket....this is just my weird poison eye, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt :).

I'm trying to tell ya, ya need to wear it with your furniture. The T shirt has some of those golden-orange tones in it. Looks yummy.

Beautiful jacket, love it with your coloring! But I love classic jackets so maybe you shouldn't listen to me....You could always play up the UWP in the other parts of your outfit.

I rather agree with Ornella---though for me it's less about visual weight (but black is usually 'heavier' than purple, fabrics notwithstanding) and more about the fact that the pants are even more classic than the jacket and are this emphasizing the classic side of the jacket despite its colour, almost. Agree a different pair of pants, possibly a lighter colour (grey? silver, like Shannon says? now Unfrumped has me comparing it to your carpet!), might bring out the playful/princess side of the jacket more. Or hey, how about a darker red?

I love the jacket however it is quite a conservative cut for you. I agree with others that you may fare better pairing the jacket with some of your edgier pieces. Very minor point but I would consider changing the buttons on the jacket.

Okay, this is formulaic, but try Column of Color in either light grays or olives with tan or cognac boots and bag.

Love the jacket(minus somehow the white cuffs:-(()...and the lethargic pose:-)) I'm in love this this kind of purple, just bought me a pencil, waiting to arrive to my house, than see how I am going to style it, other than all blacks, which still tickle my fancy. Perhaps will try with some olive, like Jonesy said.
