WIW : Industrial Strength. ETA new dog look, too

This took industrial strength guts for me to wear. It is sooooo out of my zone. I got a few looks up and down and my children commented ( they never have ). My son told me that my "pants" were too short and my daughter said that when I sat down my knees showed. ( Hello, I KNOW ! LOL ) My daughter said that she would NEVER wear what I had on. But she was very supportive in saying, " If you like it, wear it. " She is 11. I need very honest opinions here as I am trying out some new looks.

The top is a flowy crossover top with no sleeves that I went waaay out on a limb for and wore as a vest today. It is dark brown, tan, white and a very pretty blue.

The button down shirt is a blue, small pinstripe.

And the shorts...hahahaha...they are a slightly below the knew "walking" short. I paired them with the Frye slouchy boots that I have had for a about 4 years ( I have only worn them 3 or 4 times because of the bookending business ).

The picture is at an industrial warehouse turned music and dance space. We were there for music lessons.

OK...opinions please. ( Inspired by Aida and her light shoes ! )

ETA : my daughter decided to try a new look on our 80 lb lab...who is a boy. He is just so patient with her.

Oh! I like it! It has a lot going on, but I think it all works well together. I hope you wore it all day with lots of attitude. BTW, I particularly love how you tied the color of the boots in with the cardigan and your dark bottoms really repeat your dark hair. Good job with doubles bookending.

This looks so 70s chic to me - the colors and the slouchy boots with the shorts. Kids have no filter.

I think you look great. I would never have thought to wear a crossover top as a vest. Very cool idea.

K, after seeing Aida post today, it reminded me how I have always liked how she wears light colored shoes despite having dark hair. So I did the boots and cadigan thing on purpose. But NOT the pants ! LOL. Though I see it now that you have pointed it out. Also the buttons on the sweater are very dark. Wow, all accidental. : )

Nice! Gotta love those kids. The light boots absolutely work with this. I remember once reading an Aida comment about being Team High Contrast, which emboldened me to wear a lighter knee high boot over black pants. Your background scenery today and yesterday are both super!

I like the colors and relaxed look, as well as how it hints at the arrival of spring. These are interesting pieces to play with and at this time of year, we all need to switch it up. With the looser shorts and flowing cardigan, it might be fun to see how the crispness of the button down solo changes the look. Conversely, you could also wear a jacket over the crossover top to add an element of structure, I bet you get a lot of wear out of those shorts. Perfect casual MOTG here.

I think you look great. Modern with a retro touch. I like gauchos (not sure what they are called today) and I love them with the boots. I think pulling the color of the boots from the top works well. I also really love those color boots with denim (and blue). Be strong!

YES! I love it Isabel! Today you are a member of my Modern 70s kingdom Not surprisingly, I love the long shorts/culottes with tall boots look, which I also sport both with sleek and slouchy boots. I have posted a few of those over the years, though I don't have access to any of my older photos at the moment or I'd share some more with you. Having met you I have 100% confidence that you will wear this with all of the necessary attitude

In terms of light balancing, the dark jeans pick up on your dark hair and are enough bookending there; this would work equally well with light pants, so that your hair becomes the only dark element. The top and white shirt are also enough lightness that you could forgo the cardigan if it's warm enough.
