WIW, featuring Christmas presents

This is a work outfit for a casual day in the lab - I wanted to post it because I had some doubts about the proportions (not sure if the shirt is too short in front and the GAP real skinny pants a bit too form fitting?). Works well under a lab coat, though.

This was also the first outing of the coat DH gave me for Christmas - this is the JCrew Majesty peacoat I have tried on before but for my Christmas wish list I asked for a size up (and it was on sale, too!). Someone also gave me this cashmere scarf as a part of a mystery gift exchange we do with our friends - very nice present! And, finally, I picked up the JCrew Chelsea boots on an after-Christmas sale, which turned out to be very comfortable. DH was making fun of me since I already have two pairs of Petty booties that have a similar shape but these are leather, not suede, so they can actually be worn now without being ruined by snow and salt.

The proportions seem fine to me. And the blue coat is lovely on you!

I had a similar question so I'm glad you posted. I tried wearing my skinnies with a longish top the other day and ended up changing. I felt like my pants looked too snug but they fit just like yours and yours look fine. I think I'm so used to wearing volume over skinny or bf style jeans that my eye is not used to looking at fitted bottoms. So to answer your question, I think the proportions are fine but it looks less modern to my eye than a more voluminous top. It is flattering in a traditional way, IMHO. LOVE the new coat. You look terrific!

Thanks, everyone! I haven't worn this combo in a while so I felt very self-conscious yesterday, wondering about the skinnies being too tight. Glad to hear they work, and glad to be coat twins with you, merwoman! Such a nice Christmas gift!

Carambola, the ankle fit is good (I have pretty skinny ankles). I haven't tried wearing these with skirts but it is easy to wear skinnies over them, so the opening is fairly narrow. I will measure the size of the opening tonight and let you know.

The proportions all work for me and the booties and coat are great. Looking good.

So the shaft circumference is a bit under 11 inches. I have about an nch wide gap around the ankle so most likely will not be wearing these booties with skirts but they work well with pants.

Wow, fabulous! That Majesty pea coat is sensational on you. Just love it. The booties look beautiful, too. And I think your pants and top are absolutely terrific on you. The blouse has a bit of billowy-ness to it and the pants are sleek.

Agree with others that the entire outfit does right by you. I am particularly drawn to the gorgeous blue and fit of the coat. That shape looks so refined.
