WIW hot summer and thrift shopping.

Summer is here- here are a mix of work and casual looks. Most are not new, but I had some success thrifting yesterday.

1. An old favourite dress, may be almost worn out. Classic bone sandals again. Work.
2. Patterned blouse, black crops and gold sandals. Work. Prefer this with a heel for proportions and really not loving it as is.
3. Old charcoal dress- not wearing any more- but wore for a day and received unsolicited compliments. Same sandals. Work.
4. Casual Saturday watching tennis. Very authentic and real - it was a scorcher!!
5. Work from home- liked this although I look tired. Red lippy to try to lift me.
6-8. New thrift scores- may gift one necklace to a friend.
9-10. Thrifted dress- love the colours. What do you think?

What works - any that don't? Which look the most elegant in a casual or work way?

These are all great looks! I especially like the polka dot top in #6. The thrifted necklace with the black and white beads is awesome! I like the thrifted dress and it looks great for summer.

The beads are great, I will try with a black tee but I may gift this one, but could be tempting to keep

There's your elegant edge right there, sweet Sally. Love the sunnies, and #2 and #5 are elegant too (although not dresses). I vote Killer all round. You make dressing well in extreme heat look very easy - which it is NOT.

And you are ADORABLE in #4. I could eat you up.

I've always loved to see you in dresses, Sally. But I'm amazed at how wonderful you look in #2&5!!! Wow.....your pants fit you soooooo well! And the shorts too!

I love the clutch. I'm suddenly very much into dainty jewelry myself (necklaces, bracelets and rings) and I think they definitely dress-up simple outfits. Keep experimenting!

You look elegant in all of these - especially #5 for the casually elegant look and #1 for the work look. Sad to hear that a favourite dress is almost worn out. I hate it when I have to say goodbye to well loved items like this. #9 is a fabulous summer dress, I love the fit and colours on you!

Agree with the others, these are all fab! The thrifted dress looks perfect. Agree, the colors are great.

All of these are terrific - I like #2 a lot even without the heel. The thrifted dress is fantastic.

I'm with Shevia - I'm really drawn to #2 and didn't even notice the shoes . That top is such a great look and colour for you. And you do rock a dress , I agree with that too

My favourite is the Bailey 44-ish dress in no 1. I like those striking, angular stripes. Bold and elegant. I also think the white jeans (pants?) look is very elegant. Love the thrifted dress. Great Spring/summer colours on you. And your shorts outfit is super cute (love your hat!).

Thanks for the feedback. I find summer style much easier than winter style - it just comes more naturally to me.

Thanks Angie - frocks are my favourite. They mostly fit me well, and are flattering, and suit my personality too:)

Thanks Manny- I have lost a small amount of weight which I think helps my pants fit. The clutch was a steal in price, I think it will be a great addition though as it is that nice line between dressy and casual.

Bijou - I know, this dress has been a stalwart for a few years, in winter with a jacket, and in summer simply like this. I would like a replacement because I do use this as a FFBO often. Thanks for the validation on the new dress too.

Astrid - yes you will recognise my house of course. I am loving the new dress already.

Shevia - thanks. I think it is the ballet flat - they were the best covered flat option I had (I needed a covered shoe on that day) but I do not love the round toe flat ballet shoe on me - but until I get around to purchasing light coloured oxfords or similar I will make do I think.

LisaP - thanks, the top is great, but I only wear it with these pants. I don't like it with my white pants at all, but I could try it with black shorts or even my looser black pants.

Brooklyn, thank you. I have a real Bailey 44 dress, but it is quite fitted and more suited to evening than work. I like the hat too, and it has been well worn.

Thanks Lyn - it is not hot compared to Australia, but quite humid.

Conclusions I have drawn from this collection:

Get another winter dress or two (I only have one plus these first two worn here) and dresses suit me and make me happy.
I could wear more accessories, I know this:)
Colour brings me compliments - wear it more, or at the least, a bright lippy and nail colour.

My favorites are 1 and 2 but you found some lovely things thrifting. The summer dress looks pretty and fresh on you. I hope that you find a replacement much like the dress in 1. You have hot weather dressing down. I need to take notes.

Thanks Joy. Our summers are not extreme (nor are our winters) so I don't have enough time to really get sick of them. Because I like bold prints they can do alot of the work for me.

It is interesting to me how many people like 2 which is my least favourite- because I feel the footwear lets me down.

Now I need to work out how to translate an easy summer style into winter....

I love the way you look in your dresses (the nip in at the waist is so flattering on you), but also like the pants outfits too. This is very inspiring for my upcoming Spring and Summer - fun colorful prints for the win.

Ha! My eye went right to #2 and I love it on you just as is! You look amazing in every one of these, though -- #4 is super fab adorable and I absolutely understand its practicality also. The hat is great on you!

As for the dresses, all are fab. The new thrifted dress really is gorgeous for late summer -- the colours feel so cool and fresh and must be a relief in the heat. There is nothing better than a new frock in the summer, especially one with blues.

Love the pretty new accessories, too. That clutch may become a workhorse -- it has a nice range of neutrals for your colouring.

I think your shorts outfit is great. The straw hat makes it stylish. I must get one for myself. What about a straw fedora for an even trendier look?

Thanks Delurked, as an hourglass (albeit a thickening one!) some nip or tapering at the waist is a good look, although I don't like wide belts as I am too short waisted. Prints are my favourite, and I should wear them more in winter.

Thanks Suz! I like to get a new hat each year that is city appropriate (not too beachy, not a cap). They get a hard time and by the end of the year get downgraded to a beach hat only. Thanks for the validation on the dresses.

Smittie - thank you. The charcoal dress was purchased in 2011 and worn a lot for two years. I wish it was a little longer, but every now and then I drag it out...I would love a fedora as well - it is finding one that fits my wide head!!

All fab Sally, I really like your stripe and new trifted floral dress(awesome colors), love the white ankle strap sandals as are wedges, and look so comfy! ( I do have some similar ones in navy and tan, but would like some dressier, like your's here!)

My challenge for sure is going to be translating a summer style that I find easy, flattering and fun into a winter style when I have a much smaller selection of clothes and challenges to find new ones!!

Hi Sally! You look so great - it's been a while for me around here and so wonderful to see you, really. I love #1 the most, what an amazing dress on you. And I think you should start wearing the charcoal dress again. I can see why it got you unsolicited praise - you have a gorgeous shape.

The thrifted dress is so pretty. I especially love the closeup, because it shows the lovely neckline (which again enhances your wonderful shape) and the great sleeve detail. It looks like it would be cool on a hot night. I wish I could wear summer dresses like this with a cinched-in waist. Immediately I thought of you on holiday in Italy or something. Pure romance.

What lovely comments Viva, I posted this when it was hot and now it is raining and miserable. Nice to hear the love for the old and new dresses- I should wear dresses more often as I have none of the fit issues I get with trousers and pants - I would love to get a winter dress that evokes the same feeling.

Thanks Xtabay - it is odd being out of sync seasonally with most of the forum. Probably in April we will get some crossover temperature wise.
