WIW: good, bad and ugly (shorts)

I am posting my WIWs for the last 3 days. I really want to wear walking shorts. I felt # 2 looked fine but the photo says NoNoNo and those shorts are OUT of the wardrobe! Unfortunately I went out like that.
# 1 is today. I like the shorts but suspect the top was not great (?)
and finally the shorts in #3 were for Sunday's half marathon. I didn't win any style contests OR the race but we did finish it!
Does anyone have a suggestion for walking shorts I can order online? I placed an order with JCrew and am hoping they are a better fit!

I am not a big online shopper but I like the walking/bermuda shorts from target. I like pic#1 , i think dark shorts look good on you.

Congratulations on the half marathon, you are amazing!! And you look great in your running gear too.

I think outfit 1 and 2 are nice. I guess the taper of the shorts in outfit 1 are more attractive, but 2 is certainly not bad. I don't know much about styling bermuda shorts but maybe it is the tucked in top that is making you feel this is not working. Just a thought.

Congrats on the half. The longest I managed was a 10km run.

I often buy the Old Navy shorts. They come in different lengths, are a heavy enough fabric to stay put and come in lots of colors.

Nice job on the half-marathon! I wanted to train for one again this summer but my knees don't seem able to handle the distances anymore. I love the first pair of shorts, and I don't think the second pair is that bad.

Hmm shorts are such a hard thing to style arent they! Here's my 2 cents, I think with the first outfit you need a bit more contrast up top to offset the black shorts. Perhaps either a white shirt or a brightly colored shirt to go under the vest? With the second outfit, I would try untucked or perhaps try a thin tan belt so it defines your waist a little more.

I must say that I prefer the fit of the shorts in #1. Angie actually wrote a post about wearing black in warm weather. I've linked it here for you:

I thought this may give you a few ideas for things to try!

I actually really like how you've combined the colours/patterns in #2. I think it is just that the shorts don't seem to fit you as nicely around the waist as #1.

Don't give up on shorts - you have great legs. See this as an opportunity to have lots of fun experimeting!

I like #1 better thank #2. I think it's because #2 are much looser and don't show off your fantastic legs as well. My fav is #3! You have great legs - you should show them off with shorter shorts or tighter shorts!

#1-Looks great. I am a big fan of the preppy look.
#2-These shorts look too big on you, they are not as streamlined to the bosy as #1.

THe shorts in #1 fit you nicely. The only thing I'm struggling with on the outfit is the sweater vest and sandals combination. I like the preppy top, but maybe more of a pump or heeled loafer would complete it? I have tried on a million shorts that fit exactly like #2 and I still have none. They must be out there because I see them on other people. Keep looking (and let me know what you find)

I have an older pair of Jcrew City Fit bermudas that are a size too big now, but fit me well when they were my size.

Those are the shorts I ordered...hopefully they will fit!
I don't know my body type. Is the pic in running gear one that could be used to get help with that? Or should I post another ( and wearing what? Not a bathing suit I hope!!)

I'm with Sara, #3 is my fave! Big congrats on your race! I like the tapered ones in #1 better than the ones in #2. Target is a good place to go, and so is Old Navy. I have bermudas from both of them that fit great.

Great work on the marathon and love your running outfit.

Love the black shorts over the other pair. They are much more flattering. Seeing as you rock the running shorts perhaps it is the tighter line. Good luck in your online source.

No advice for sourcing shorts, but I saw these pics pop up the other day and was admiring the fit of the black shorts!

I agree with the consensus that they grey ones are off in the fit.

I also would like to see you swap the top -- and hey, why not the great shoes? -- in #2 with what you are wearing in #1. To me the particular shades in #1 are a bit harsh against the black, but I think the grey and red will flow nicely. This might buy you some time as you continue your search....
