Have missed you all: I took a YLF break over the holidays to save my wallet, but also to spend time with my kids who were home from college.

I noticed some recent dresses on AT's site I thought might work for my figure, ordered them, and all three are keepers. That rarely happens! Here is one of them. What do you think?

I wasn't sure about the different pattern on the back. It surprised DH but he likes it and thinks the dress is fun. It is very comfy and easy to wear. It's a cotton sweater knit, so will work just fine into the early spring. Accessories: I just popped a red scarf on with it, and topped it with my cobalt coat. I have a range of bags that would go with this but I kept it simple yesterday and stuck with black.

Also what do you think of the new lipstick? I think I may have found my Holy Grail lipstick. It's Cover Girl and lasts for like 12 hours. It is pretty much an exact match to the inside of my lip, which is what I've been searching high and low for....

You'll note I cut my hair short again - the longer it got, the more it bothered me. Shorter fits my personality better. Also I had the hairdresser add back in the lighter highlights. The darker blonde I had been sporting was a nice change, but I kept finding I was needing brighter and brighter lipstick which is a sign to me that the color was washing me out. It seemed to be growing out quite easily - could not really see the roots. Before I knew it, I had grown it out a whopping 4 or 5 inches! There was definitely something going on at the roots, but they didn't seem DARK....

Then one day I noticed in the mirror and in natural sunlight that the reason my roots weren't all that noticeable was because ... OMG... I have a LOT of white coming in! A LOT! WHITE, not grey! It looked like it had snowed on the top of my head. I had a moment of shock there.... especially because it took me so long to notice it....

So after discussing with my hairdresser, we went back to the lighter highlights. She is saying that when I'm ready to go natural, she wants to dye my hair platinum blonde... she thinks it will then grow out quite gracefully. I am not sure I'm ready for that yet.

What a cute dress! I love that it has a different pattern on the back. Your hair looks great (and I hear you on the white--it's snowing on the top of my head too!). I think you made the right decision on the cut AND the color. It looks fantastic!

I prefer drugstore brands because I like to experiment with lots of different colors. The lower price point means I can go crazy. As I said, it seems to last for 10-12 hours. It is a bit drying, as most long-lasting lipstick tends to be, but not as bad as other brands. I just add a slick of chapstick or gloss on top.

My Holy Grail color is called Smitten (in the mauve family; I always do best with shades of mauve). I also have the Tempt Seduction, which is my version of a "true red" -- it is a bit strong for daytime, though my hairdresser went wild over it and loved it. And I picked up a couple of more nude shades too, which are also working great.

Apply it carefully. If you go with a brighter shade (like the Tempt Seduction) you may want to blot. I don't blot the lighter shades. Do not drink anything for about 10-15 minutes. Once it's set, you can add gloss.

I am planning to go back for a bright fuschia - i think that will be fun for the Spring, and it's on trend according to the article I read while getting my hair done.

Thanks for the info, Shiny! I love the color range of the CV lipstick. I've been using a long-ish lasting color by Rimmel but find the choice of colors very limiting. I have to go out for science camp supplies today so I will check out the colors in person. Thank you again for your detailed response. It's helpful to see/know what works on you--Tempt Seduction is so striking on you! Wow!

I do that too. I can't remember the last time I bought makeup at a counter in a department store.
I also buy the $1.99 nail polish. I mess up a manicure so fast that it just doesn't pay to spend a lot there.

Moira - I buy my foundation (Clinique) and moisturizer (Lancome) at the department store. Lipstick I stick to drugstore because I can't just own one or two! I must have about 10 tubes in rotation right now, plus I like to keep one in the bathroom and one in my bag. And mascara is also drugstore brand because it doesn't matter what I spend on it, my eyelashes still look pathetic. Hee hee.

Actually the last time I invested in department store lipstick, it gave me a nasty allergic reaction. Even though it was some "natural" brand that wasn't supposed to do that. If I stick to inexpensive brands, I don't have to feel bad if I need to toss out the whole tube.

But for nails I go to a salon because I can't paint my nails at all. Never been able to master that.

You look absolutely gorgeous and sassy and fun and yet in control! White hair does blend in better with light blond, which is how my hairdresser convinced me to get highlights a few months back. Doesn't work as well when your hair is dark though.

Laura - will have to wait for the other dresses; weather needs to be just a bit warmer.

AG- I'll take a close up when I can. I seem to be coming down with something; I fear it is the flu, since it has come on rather abruptly. Cross fingers it isn't.

Caro - I'm crossing fingers my hair winds up your color. I think it just *might* - which makes all of this easier to swallow.

Lyn - this is the petite and I'm 5'0. How tall are you? I would think if you are petite, and wanted a longer length, you could order the regular? I like the shorter length myself, because I was really jonesing for a flirty dress I could wear with flat boots rather than heels. And to my eye the shorter length works better with flat boots?

Kiwi- my kids are 18 and 20.. *gasp*...

MnSara - that's not my daughter. That pic is of a dear friend who just turned 30. She calls me mom though.
