I had to come down to my University town (80 miles drive) for an overnighter for some meetings, paperwork, and to try and arrange a date for my dissertation defense. I started out with a carefully chosen outfit - casual but reasonably professional (for a grad student), comfy, flattering, OK for long periods of both sitting and walking.

So my boyfriend jeans, a cobalt blue top (my power color), and a grey cardi, worn with my new shooties (1st 2 pics). I took those pics just before I had to leave the house, and then promptly spilled coffee all over myself. I got myself good -- soaked through to my knickers, the only thing I didn't have to change were my shoes and bra. I had literally 5 minutes to not only change, but make sure my outfit for tomorrow would work with different pants.

I grabbed my olive trousers since they are the same silhouette as the boyfriends and would work with the shoes, and this black/white surplice top. I had originally planned to wear a magenta top tomorrow - instead I grabbed a blue twin (to go with the olive pants), stuffed it in my bag and ran out the door.

Pre YLF this would have been a panic inducing disaster. But now that my wardrobe is much more carefully curated, I knew what I had, and was able to make quick substitutions with only minimal effort/thought. And it's a good thing too, because this whole day has been a stress fest. I canNOT get my committee to agree on a date and time, and it has to be this month. Argh. I guess the good thing about being known for being calm and in control is that when you do start to become unravelled, people actually pay attention. My adviser has sent out an email to the rest of the committee. Maybe she'll be able to make headway where I have not been able to. In the meantime ... I sure could use a drink.
