I just love this! But then, I so love black paired with jeans The vee neck adds a bit of feminine warmth to the outfit. And the dark shoes bookend your hair nicely.

I can't really tell that the shoes are sketchers. They just look dark in the photo, and happy feet are a must!

Thank you, Thistle! I love black with denim too. So often I'll throw it on then decide that it's boring without color. Not sure why that seems to be ingrained in me, because I really do like neutral outfits at least as much as colorful ones. Glad I stuck with it this morning!

Thanks, Carambola. I'm glad they don't look as tight as they feel. Unlike my skinnies, there's very little stretch. Maybe that's why they feel tighter. Interesting point about the rise with the semi-tuck. Maybe that's what I've been getting wrong. I usually wear mid-rise. Maybe that's not as "faux-tuckable"?

I think you look great! The jeans look like they fit fine and the faux tuck looks good. I can't see the sketchers that well, but they seem to go with the outfit from what I can see.

The jeans look great. I can see that the rise is really low, but it looks good on you. I would never have guessed you are short waisted from this picture. You got the proportions just right.

The jeans don't look too low-rise at all! The whole thing just seems simple and elegant -- to me, the sneakers tie in well and read almost as a deliberate attempt to add a little playfulness, if that makes sense.

I think this looks great, and the proportions are also good.
If you are struggling with the faux tuck, I bet it is the rise on your jeans. I got a new pair of jeans at Christmas that are higher than I normally wear, and can't faux tuck them.

LOVE the new jeans, Carter! The faux tuck looks good to me, although I'm no expert. I think you're on to something about needing a lower rise like that for the faux tuck to look right. I've begun to think I need to find some, too. I'll have to check out the J Brands. Are those just called straight legs, or do they have a style name?

I love black with denim and I think your proportions, and the tuck, look just right. I think a lower rise definitely works better for tucking.

Thanks, Catnip. My waist is only a couple inches below my chest. Seems kind of ridiculous that it took me 50 years to stumble into something that helps the proportions;-)

I like the "playfulness" observation, Aubergine. That's what I think when I see others in Converse, yet it somehow never occurred to me that I could achieve a similar look.

Everything works Carter! You look super in the jeans and the faux-tuck looks perfect to me (but I am no expert, I just know when it *doesn't* work). I have similar Sketchers and I like them for comfort as well as for being a sleeker-looking sneaker.

Thanks, AM! I like that they don't have shoe laces to mess with my jean's cuffs or come undone. They're definitely less clodhopper than my regular gym shoes. This is the first time I've worn them out in public (other than intentional walking in the neighborhood), so I still felt a little clunky with them. My feet were certainly happy though!

I like the lower rise, Carter, and I think the only rule is to keep your backside cleavage under wraps, lol!

I'm liking straight legs more and more, whether worn slouchy or fitted, in place of skinnies. And I lived in my Skechers for a couple of years, so I know they're comfy!

Funny, Beth Ann! I assure you there was no backside cleavage. You got me wondering why not, though. Just went and looked at them. The rise in the back is a good 3+ inches higher than in the front.

I've learned so much from this one post: faux tucks work much better with lower rise pants; a lower rise helps balance my short waist; when wearing low rise, make sure the back rise is sufficient; skechers are ok to wear in public; and finally, either don't put these jeans in the dryer or don't eat a gargantuan hamburger the night before I want to wear them! Prior to YLF absolutely none of this would have registered with me. Sad but true.

Carter, this is super interesting to me. I am also slightly short waisted but long in the rise (from waist to crotch) and I always thought it meant I needed a higher rise, too. But my new Citizens of Humanity jeans are very low rise and despite having slightly short legs (and this emphasizing my short legs) I LOVE, love LOVE them!

I do find that on me, at least, a semi tuck works as long as the rise is not more than 8.5 inches. Individual proportions obviously make a difference here - I am on the short side at only 5'4". And it somewhat depends on the type of sweater you're faux tucking and how you arrange it. I sort of adjust as needed to get the right look. Or what I hope is the right look!

But it sounds as if we've made similar discoveries.

ETA: and yes, the secret is in a differential rise front and back, and also I think the front waistband needs to be curved a different way. I've owned other jeans with the exact same rise length and they felt way TOO short for me -- they were cutting into me in a weird way. But now I see why. I guess sometimes it really does pay to buy premium or at least higher quality.

I think this outfit looks great on you and perfect for your errands.

So many times I feel like everything is right with my outfit, but my body is just out of proportion. How awesome is it to discover that it may be that the clothes are out of proportion? That we can fix!
