Thank you all for being so kind. I'm the kind of person who often talks herself out of posting things like WIWs for not being good enough or polished enough, and knowing how welcoming all of you are makes it much, much easier for me to actually post things.
Runcarla, oh, I know! Faux leather seems to have gotten a lot better over the years. The women's leather market is saturated with lambskin and other top-grain leather right now, and faux holds up really, really well to those, imo.
On the other hand, what I really want is a good heavy full-grain leather jacket for me to break in over the years as a "buy it for life" item, and I just can't find anything. Men's leather options are full of these, but for some reason retailers just don't think that women might want the same thing! I've started to investigate some bespoke and made to measure options right now, but it looks like I need to triple my budget for that, which means a few months of saving up.
Karie, haha, isn't that perfect? I was actually cutting through the women's section when this one caught my eye, and I stopped to try it on. My SO was with me at the time, and we had this brief exchange:
R: Why? You know you're not going to like it, you never like anything here, and it's fake leather, you hate that stuff!
Me, literally three seconds later: Um… is this going to my head because it fits in the arms (oh the issues I have with upper arms on leather jackets), or does this look as good on me as I think?
R: …it actually looks pretty good, you should buy it at once.
Deborah, I agree completely about the length issue! These are a 35.5" inseam, which works on most flats and sub-3" heels, but really doesn't work as well on anything higher. It's tough to find a long enough inseam on a large enough size on a cut with enough room for my thighs. I'm hoping that as I lose weight and my options expand, it'll be easier to find denim that works.
lyn67, I love buying hi fancy collars, but MAN, cloth collars pick up dirt fast! The colors on this one have gotten muddy due to frequent washing and I'm thinking it's time for me to buy him a new one so that he looks super snazzy for the photoshoot I wanted to do with the two of us next month. Maybe something with a bright red this time.
Oh, quick question for everyone: When I take outfit photos, I usually do a close-up on my face as well to record/check my makeup. (I'm learning makeup skills at the same time as learning to dress myself better, so the two are related in my mind.) I posted that shot on my first WIW because it showed the detail on my blazer a lot better than my cell-phone quality outfit photo, but didn't on this one because the image quality here showed my outfit in sufficient detail. How do we generally feel about those kinds of photos on WIWs here? Should I continue to leave them out or include them in the future?
