WIW: For a traffic jam

I am *trying* to drive to Indianapolis to see my parents for a few days, but am currently sitting in a traffic jam in Missouri. I've moved about 50 feet in the last 3 hours. I have plenty of gas, but not enough to run the engine indefinitely, so I raided my suitcase for layers. Here is my fab look: wool coat over plushie vest over t-neck over sweatshirt. Plus hat, gloves, two pairs of socks, and aquatalia boots. Cashmere wrap/scarf currently functioning as blanket! In good spirits as I munch on nuts and listen to Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel on audible, but ready to get moving. Thanks for letting me whine!

I'm about to be looking something like that. I was outside working in the wind and rain and feel cold even though it's warm in the house. Sorry your stuck in a traffic jam. Stay warm, stay safe!

Horrible! That is a long time to be stuck in traffic. You look cute in spite of the circumstances. Please post to let us know when you are safely at your parent's or back home.

Wow -- a three hour traffic jam really stinks! Hope things get moving soon. You do look very cute all bundled up. Hope you can stay plenty warm as you are waiting.

Thanks for the commiseration! Shortly after my post, traffic began moving - but at a glacial place. The trip from Wichita to Indy should take a little over 10 hours. Today, it took me 14 hours just to reach St. Louis (normally takes 6 hours). I finally decided it would not be smart to continue on and am in a hotel for the night. All this havoc was caused by light drizzle, by the way. It's not like it was a blizzard! What a day!

Ummlilla: I am enjoying the book! A good narrative helps keep me sane.

JAileen: I was stuck in the worst spot! No place to turn around and (mileage-wise) at the half-way point. I would have considered turning back more seriously, but it seemed like the weather was worse in the direction of home.

Your snuggled up layers look lovely and cosy. I'm in the UK so no really severe weather but I always keep a warm coat, blanket and hat & gloves in the car in case of traffic jams or break downs in the cold. Ironically I've only ever had to use them when I got locked out and had to sit in my car on the drive for an hour!!
I love listening to audiobooks on long journeys they seem to calm my nerves better than music xx

Lol, you look pretty funny but did you notice that the colours are all good together! (Well, the pink is debatable.)

Oh my. I would have gone nuts. I cannot stand to wait forever in a queue, especially if there is no escape. Anyway you dressed very effectively! When I read your first post I was just suggesting to look for a hotel and wait for a better time to get back on the road. I hope that you finally arrived well.

I successfully reached my parents...and now I am home again. That was a LOT of hours in the car for a weekend trip! I'm so glad I stopped at a hotel for the night because I learned the interstate that loops Indianapolis had so many accidents that people were stuck for NINE HOURS and many people had to spend the night in their cars. Ridiculous. As Louise mentioned, tis the season to make sure you have winter gear in your car...you just never know. Hope everyone's holiday travels go smoothly!
