WIW for 8 hours keeping up with 8 tweens

So I volunteered to help chaperone a birthday party. There was a 1 1/2 hour mall scavenger hunt, followed by feeding 12 people with food court meals from 4 different places, pinata hitting, cupcake decorating, swimming at the neighborhood pool, snacks, and present opening. Oh, did I mention the party was 8 HOURS long and no other mom offered to help the hostess?!

Not that the hostess made a request for help, but I was taught to always ask if there is anything one could do or bring.

When did tween/teen parties start extending to such long hours? This is the fourth party that we've attended this year that has been 6 hours or longer. Maybe I'm just getting old. Looking forward to my eldest getting his license this fall!

Love it - you are a saint. In my daughters group of friends parties are this long and I call them more of a play date with a group of friends.

We're having an overnight for my DD's 13th later this month. Fortunately, we've called her "The Wedding Planner" since she was 3 years old -- she was up until 11 last night planning her menu and activities. She'll make grocery lists, prep ingredients in little bowls for making personal pizzas, plan games. I come alongside to anticipate problems and help out. Yes, it goes from 6pm to 10am and I get very little sleep, but they stay here and pretty much entertain themselves.

I hope I look as fab -- I adore those shorts on you! It's a great scale of floral for you, and the colors keep it "grown up" but feminine.

Wow... What an exhausting party! But you sure looked wonderful! This outfit looks like it is perfectly appropriate to the activities while also being stylish and put together. Casual/kid-realated activities are the hardest to pull off that perfect balance for me, so I am totally impressed!

Eight hours is just too long for any party...You are a brave woman to volunteer and to stick it out...Next time look at the ground and sit on your hands when volunteering comes around...smile...

I really like this -especially the shorts! What a cute and unique summer look- and high five to you on hanging in there for an 8 hour bday party -cannot even imagine! (no wonder no-one else volunteered to help!)

SarahTheWhite, I agree that kid events are hard to dress for. I was very pleased with these new floral shorts! They were comfy and still looked good at the end of the day. Actually, every part of this outfit is a summer workhorse. The blue top is light and breezy. The neon yellow earrings always add that bit of zing. Navy wedges are one of two all day sandals. The bag holds plenty, but isn't too big.

I felt perfectly appropriate at the mall and by the pool. A rare 10 out of 10 for outfit satisfaction! Yay!

Cute outfit! That is a long party! I do think the mom brought it on herself; I always went for simple overnight slumber parties with my tweens....I might not have volunteered but admire your generosity!
