WIW: floral tunic and jeggings

I found this tunic on eBay. It’s an older Torrid blouse. The colors are 1000% dark autumn. It is sheer chiffon, tunic length, and has a curved hi-low hem. This is a cut and style I wore a TON 5-10 years ago when I was in my hipster-bohemian phase. I have transitioned recently to softer bombshell looks. Or at least, I’ve been aiming for that.

This is probably a dated style to some degree. Yet, I actually got a lot of silent second look type compliments and men opening doors for me, picking up things that fell off the grocery counter, etc—which rarely happens, even in soft bombshell. Maybe I should go back to tunics and leggings??? What do you all think? I honestly was worried I looked pudgy or pregnant wearing the empire waistline. But the reactions make me wonder if it’s still a worthwhile look to keep in rotation.

One style idea I am percolating on… I don’t wear width well. Still, I would like to try this tunic with a pair of culottes or cropped wide leg jeans and boots or sneakers. I think it could be a very exciting combo.

Blouse: Torrid, secondhand
Jeggings: Walmart; ooooooldd and worn.
Sandals: Sofft
Makeup: lipstick is Revlon Raisin Rage; blush is Nars Taos; eyeshadows are TooFaced Chocolate Bar (disc. palette).

Everything about this top works to my eye. The color is gorgeous on you. The print is dainty, pretty, and feminine, and I don't see any issues with pudge or the middle area. This top looks like it drapes nicely and the soft flowy material pairs well with the jeggings for some contrast. I love this outfit on you.

I think it could be fun to try to mix this up with other bottoms. I am having a crop wide leg jean moment myself, so I am biased and vote to try that combination.

It all looks gorgeous on you - not just the top, but the makeup & jewellery etc!

I wouldn't worry *too* much about things being 'dated' - even the trendiest outfit won't look so good on someone if it doesn't harmonise with their features. And many folk in our everyday lives don't follow or aren't even aware of what's trendy (as evidenced by the indirect compliments) - they react positively to what looks harmonious to them. But what's most important is how YOU feel the most in harmony. If you like the outfit, rock it!

That said, if you want a more trending look, you could achieve that with the accessories/ supporting act? Wide leg crops sound like a good way to do that, or maybe trendy shoes/ bag? Don't ask me whether that means chunky lug soles or dainty ballet flats though lol, in this DYOT era I have no idea what's 'in' any more!

This post gave me lots of thoughts. So here we go:
1. Those silent looks and slight adjustments of behavior. I am glad you brought this up - I know exactly what you mean and I have wondered if it is my imagination, but it isn't, is it? Even at my age, I feel the difference when I look more conventionally flattered. It slightly freaks me out, frankly.
2. The blouse, hair, makeup combination is amazing on you and you look gorgeous.
3. About dated - as Angie says dated is dated. Nonetheless, there are ways to make this look more "current". To me the blouse works so beautifully it doesn't read at all as dated. You *could* substitute the jeggings for slim jeans or narrow pants. Or even kick flares. But is it really important to you to look more current?
4. Finally (for now) with rises going down, tunics might be coming back anyway .

I think this is a stunning look on you. The whole vibe looks fantastic with your gorgeous curls. I particularly like how you've combined the blouse with the jewelry. Really there is so much here that is inspirational to me as I put together my outfits.

But so interesting that you noted different reactions in this outfit compared to what you typically wear. I don't like a lot of attention, so if that happened to me it might make me less likely to wear it again? (Question mark because I'm not sure whether that's true.)

You wear this look so well, little wonder you’re getting this type of attention. Its elegant, bohemian casual to my eye and as Jaime mentioned the idea of dated is a bit dated with instead DYOT offering us all an opportunity to enjoy whatever suits us best.

I think this looks great on you. The color is fab. I like it with the skinny jeans but would love to see it with different bottoms also and see the difference? Might be best with the skinnies but can't hurt to try.

If someone is well put together (as you so beautifully are) it tends to not look dated, imo. I’d try some different combos, as well.

Amazing! Fab colour on you, and such gorgeous hair and makeup I am not surprised by the attention you got.
I haven’t had that kind of attention for a long time, over a decade, and the last few times I did, in my 40s, it was quite pleasant. I don’t exactly miss it but just feel a little wistful that I used to be perceived as “attractive” and no longer am in the same way. It’s OK, just life.
Whatever you’re doing here I would keep doing it if you feel happy!
