WIW: First day of new job, and keep these AGLs?

First day of work! I was on the go with orientation and other HR stuff all day, plus lots of actual work-related tasks. I felt overdressed, surprisingly. A female colleague was wearing white denim straight leg jeans and a cute Breton top. Theory blazer, old Kenneth Cole sheath which I somehow didn't dump and is now going to be useful.

I actually wore this with patent heels, but wanted to show you the AGLs from e-bay. They are very comfy although they make me realize that I am the opposite of pigeon-toed, which also explains why I have a funny running gait. My issue, as with all ballet flat styles, is that I feel they make my feet look like little hooves. I have such a sugar eye for chunky heels and these are the very opposite.

Thoughts?

Yes, my job is not going to be my style outlet so I might as well be comfortable... These were actually a relatively inexpensive fit experiment before I splurge on the higher-heeled version, which would suit me much more.

The shoes look fantastic! They actually have a bit of a heel. This immediately elevates them (ha ha) in my own personal pantheon. But I don't get this "little hooves" thing. And how do chunky heels obviate it? I am confused? To me, a chunky shoe would look more like a hoof. Hoove. Whatever.

Not that I am against a chunky boot.

HA! I thought I was the only one who thought ballet flats look like hooves. Wow.

They do look good on you, though. The metallic finish makes 'em almost UWP. Iron ballerina armor. I didn't know AGL made heels, too. Cool! I LOVE the outfit as a whole. That blazer would made any dress look cool.

I guess by hooves I meant that my feet look disproportionately small. I'm used to used chunkier shoes (like the Eject sandals) to feel balanced with my shoulders... Glad you all don't see that effect here!

Una, you look great, and while I may have had reservations about the shoes they actually look really good. I think you hair gives your overall look it's signature edge and you look fab. My work would have to be one of the most unfashionable environments ever... so I use it to my advantage and wear what ever I want I also use at a testing zone for new ideas etc because here no one really cares and I can spend the day assessing how I feel etc in something new. Having said that we have just employed a new staff member who IS interested in fashion and I am enjoying having someone to chat to.

Your feet look fine. I'm a size 10 and probably should not wear big stompy shoes and white shoes, but I do anyways.

The outfit is a departure from your solo practice fashions but a good one. (What ever happened to one of your guys who would make clohing comments?)

I have to confess I do not like the shoes. It doesn't seem like you. They look great, your feet look fine, it's just that I'm not sure how happy they will make you.

My two cents which is what this post is worth.

Your shoes definitely look work appropriate, attractive, and comfy -- a tough combo to come by. I have NEVER thought your feet nor any other person's shod feet look like hooves! Never ever would occur to me -- unless it were a Halloween costume. Now, I remember visiting a friend in college and saw his roommates sandals or shoes and they were a size 13 or 14 and I didn't think they were real but were a joke. . .but maybe that's because my little Asian dad wore size 7s so that was what I was used to seeing.

Great about the dress, the whole outfit, the good first day. Keep the shoes, they have huge potential. I understand you about the 'hooves', I have disproportionally small feet for my height (my husbands wonders how I even walk), but these are both pretty and useful - and classic too

i think its always better to be slightly overdressed on the 1st day.
i like the shoes, but as i own 2 pairs, i'm slightly biased.

Shoes do not detract at all from the Unaness of this outfit! Sounds like you will have more latitude than you thought with your work wardrobe? At any rate you look fab!

Great outfit for first day - always better to go a wee bit dressier and conservative at the beginning until you get the "lay of the land". Love that dress on you and of course the Theory blazer can do no wrong.

I think the shoes look great on you and if they are comfy, all the better. I see no hoof-ness.

I like the shoes - they may not be the coolest shoes ever, but sometimes a comfy, professional pair of shoes are all that's needed. Glad your first day went well.

I totally know what you mean about hooves - I have a thing about my feet being too small for the rest of me. But your feet look in proportion to me in those shoes, and they work with the outfit.

HOWEVER. I agree with BJ on those shoes not really seeming like your style.

You look fab, and it sounds like you have made some good choices and investments for a basic wardrobe to start out "safely stylish" and branch out based on what you see is appropriate for your workplace, and when you feel in the groove on all that comes with new job challenges as well. You may have good opportunities to add a quirky (UWP or similar) piece to an otherwise classic outfit and get some use from some of your old favorites (or new finds) over time.

Like the dress and blazer. The shoes work, especially if they are comfortable and the work environment precludes other alternatives. I do find ballet flats in general a bit of a yawn recently, but sometimes there are compelling reasons to keep things less of a statement and more neutral, especially if our feet are happy.

Congrats on your first day. I'm betting that time in your new position will help identify the best ways to reference your style preferences.
