WIW: Finally back & Need advice on plaid pants...

Three or so crazy weeks where I managed to only get not even half of my outfit photos taken and even fewer downloaded and about 5 (maybe?) responses made to others posts... I am hoping I am back to having more time to spend on YLF!

#1 Maybe two weeks ago I decided to take these pants out of the donate bin after seeing Jeanne's (I hope I spelled your name right!) new plaid pants. Should they go back for donation? I rolled the cuffs since they are that unflattering cropped length. And I heard Angie through Claire say looser trousers are more modern, but are these just too loose? They are an 8 and most of my clothes are size 4 now... The posed photos look ok but when I am in real life watching DD (chase a chicken at the farmyard of all things!) are they lousy? #2 Date night, sun dress over bootcuts. Not conventionally flattering but one of DH favorite looks... New red Tignanello handbag to replace thrifted one I have never gotten the smell out of (Thanks Shannon for letting me know I am not the only one now doing the sniff test!) Dress Patagonia, Jeans Lucky Brand, Jean shirt Crazy Horse

#3 Easter Egg hunt with family. New Lole jacket with UPF 50... thanks ladies for the Sierra Trading Post links! I choose the ballet flats with this because I started in leggings but then it got 20 degrees warmer in an hour! Crazy weather! Dress Patagonia, Jacket Lole, Scarf vintage etsy, Ballet flats ECCO

#4 Another new UPF shirt trying to play nicely with normal attire. Oh and the Slackline DH has gotten, so much fun! Jeans & Belt JCrew, Shirt - Outdoor Research, Scarf XOXO via etsy, Red bag -- XOXO & too smelly to keep using!

#5 Yet another new shirt, and new handbag you all helped me decide on.... I love it! LOL It seems I can shop or I can YLF but I dont really have time to do both so I have been shopping lately trying to get summer ready. Another of the UPF shirts I am hoping to get a lot of wear from in the heat. Skirt outfit was for kids birthday party and I was outside all afternoon and felt comfortable in the warmish hot weather. Pants outfit I think was better in real life. Not digging the photo. Gingham UPF 30 shirt North Face, Skirt Patagonia, lovely new bag Ellington, pants & sweater BR, sandals patagonia

#6 Another styling on the dress from #2, worn today outside from 11 AM until 5 ish PM in 86 degrees and I didnt get too hot and felt I had decent UPF protection! Yippee! Dress patagonia, UPF shirt Ex officio, hat thrifted, handbag Tignanello, sandals gentle souls, shades calvin klien

No help with the plaid pants but I am in love with your UPF shirts/jackets and the way you have styled them! I especially like the colors in #3 and the scarf/jeans/shirt combo in #4.

I hate to say because they are a cute plaid, but I think the pants are way too loose on you. It's the last pic that decided it for me. Do you sew? You might be able to take them in.

Love the new bag! 3 and 5 are my favorites but I do like the touch of orange with your new blue shirt quite a bit too.

#4 and #6 are fab outfits! #4 is modern classic at its best and the proportions are perfect on you. #6 is a more ladylike direction but it really suits!
For the plaid pants, They look too big, also the style now is slouchy on top and tapered on the bottom. I think they need to go back into the donate pile. (Sorry)

Thanks Makrame for the vote of confidence on the UPF shirts. They arent quite as easy to style as a cotton shirt so I am glad they seem to be working so far!

Thanks Cocolion and Christieanne for advice on the pants... I had a sneaking suspicion the pants were done for... hence they were in the donate pile. oh well... I cant complain as I am quite happy about the weight loss!

Love the looks in #4 and #6 the best. Excellent layering, and real Sarah style. The tonal look in #3 is very fresh, and you look great with the new bag in #5.

I must say I think the pants have given you their best and should find a new home!

Good try on the plaid pants, but I agree that they're not quite right. I love you in the blue/purple tones in #3; just gorgeous! I LOVE your new handbags, that is so exciting!!! Love your UPF shirts (is that a brand? style persona? Urban Princess Fairy....United Polors of Fenneton?) I digress. I'm drooling over that gingham shirt, seriously. Glad you had fun shopping and I can't wait to see everything you got!

I think the plaid pants would make cute bermuda length shorts. Can you cut or hem them to the right length so that they can be easily rolled to the knee? If they are now too big for you, you might need to let them go. I really like the gingham shirt. I think you will get alot of wear out of it this summer. I'm not sure about the dress over jeans. I think it is too long to wear in this way. If it was more tunic length, I think it would work better.

LOL Claire... it is Ultraviolet Protection Factor. Like SPF for sunblock but for fabric, the ones I got are 30's and 50's so just like wearing sunblock but easier and cooler! I especially like the long sleeves... no farmers tan which I always get even with a lot of sunblock on, i tan easily but still like to protect my skin.

The verdict is passed on the plaid pants... away they go. I dont think I have any friends IRL that would sport them so if any ladies here are infatuated send my a PM and they are yours otherwise they are off the the goodwill to feed the thrifting karma.

Sarah, the colours and vibe of that first outfit are so delightful, I want to find a way for it to work for you despite the pants being a bit too big --- do you think you could try rolling up the pants further, for a sort of blousy long-shorts vibe, to maybe just above your calf or just below your knee? See if it's too bulky to move in! Should, I hope, look more like gathered shorts. Or you can try taking them in of course. I really LOVE the colours of the whole.

Good to see another volume over bootlegs fan! I used to wear A-line tunics like that all the time --- right up until I ruined the only pair of heel-hemmed bootcuts by stomping them underfoot.
