WIW: Festival Fashion & a Boho Baby Boy

Pic 1- What I wore to the Earth Day Festival in my neighbourhood. Do you think cool greyish taupe is ok with warmer caramel browns?

Pic 2 - Boho baby at the festival, more of a toddler but it sounds better. So cute!

Pic 3 - What I wore the next day to run errands. I know a lot of you will say the shorts & dress are too short for my age. Again cool taupe with british tan. I'm not sure I like the greyish taupe with warm tans. I should've bought the booties in a whisky colour but have lots of boots that colour & thought it would be useful to have something different. Now I'm thinking that it doesn't go with all my other accessories. I know they don't need to match but I mean work together.

Other pics are of the festival to give you an idea of what it is like around here & why my I think my casual boho fashion isn't too casual or boho.

Your festival outfit is adorable. Love the lace dress a lot. I don't think the tonal difference in the accessories is a problem. In the pics, at least, it looks fine.

And you are not too old to wear those shorts! Or that dress! I've run across this concern several times on this blog, and always from women who appear to be younger than myself. Since I wouldn't consider these items to be too short for me, it always confuses me a bit when I read these posts.

I might hesitate to wear the shorts because I have visible veins that I'm not entirely comfortable with. However, I don't consider myself too *old* to wear them. The dress? Totally appropriate for my age as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not scolding you for voicing that concern, Elle. I hope you don't take it that way. We all have different ideas of what is age appropriate and what is not. I just sometimes wonder where on the bell curve of age appropriate perception I sit. And if I'm an outlier, why the difference? Is it my general "if it doesn't hurt anyone, do your own thing" philosophy? Is it my desire to keep *all* of my own fashion options open, and if something is inappropriate for someone else, it might very well be inappropriate for me? Do I just love rebels? I don't know.

Great outfits, Elle, and they look great on you! Love the shorts with that rugged belt and bag and the linen. And to my eye, the tones work really well together. It's nice to have a bit of variation and textural interest. Boho baby's also cute.

I think the whole "age appropriateness" thing is tricky. You really do look young, and you have a great figure. Plus, you're at a concert, not in a board room. The dress that would be age-inapppropriate (or inappropriate, period) for the latter location is not at all inappropriate for what you are doing.

It all depends on what you want to convey. Here, you convey a relaxed, happy, casual, and boho-hip sense of style. And you look fab.

Thanks everyone for allowing me to show a bit of leg. Before YLF I didn't think I was too old but after reading a lot on YLF about it I now think I am. It has more or less been said that no matter how young you look, your real age is what matters. I know it is more complex than this & depends on environment etc. I feel more comfortable in this casual situation. I wouldn't wear it to work or a formal event.

I truly think it is the environment, Elle. Plus what is flattering to a person individually, of course. That's not true for all looks -- I think most grown women would have a hard time looking great in a Hello Kitty tank top, for example. (Though styled the right way, I guess it could work). But you know what I am saying. Some items are inherently juvenile. But shorter skirts do not fall into that category, IMO.

When it comes to hemlines and perhaps necklines, I think it really is a matter of what's right in the situation and it's impossible to prejudge.

Apart from environment I also agree with T-Rex & Suz about personal choice. I personally don't like my cleavage to show but am OK with leg. I know a lot of other women don't mind cleavage but not their legs. And I don't have a bad cleavage or bust either. It is just to me these days I feel like the cleavage is a private part of the body I don't want on show to the world. Weird how the leg thing doesn't bother me.

I agree with you Suz too about juvenile fashions being different than hem lengths.

I really like #1. I wear short shorts too and I'm 40.

Rae the taupe is a cool brown almost grey, in both booties & the bags & belt are a saddle, british tan color. I think if the taupe was warmer, more caramel it would be better. I have many boots in the colours like my bags & belts so I bought the taupe booties for something different & so I could wear them with greys in the fall.
