WIW feeling meh ETA: pics, happy changeup

I wore this outfit to a dear friend's thesis defence (a 5-6 hour session). I wanted to look put together and subdued to hounor my friend and his work. I did blend nicely in with the environment, but I felt meh. Probably bc the lack of a pop of colour.

Striped dress over sleeveless white blouse
Light loafers with metallic heel
Mixed media moto (light grey)
Block colour (taupe-greyish/black) bag (karl lagerfeld)
Metallic studs

ETA: I had a quick change before going to DS3's school play. Feeling so much better!
#2 same dress and blouse
Mole maxi cardi
Tomato chain bag (H&M)
Tomato pumps (Boden) - I've worked hard to break them in and now they are almost super comfy.

The outfit is very cute and I really like the collar under the dress, but I completely agree that you need a pop of colour!
Red shoes or red earrings maybe?
I think you can remain subdued without losing all colour

I find the combination of the striped dress with the light-colored shoes very nice. It's the beige (?) jacket and the dark bag that make this outfit a bit too serious in my opinion. Have you already thought of another way to style this outfit?

Oh that dress is a fab fit on you! And I love the crisp white collar. I have a similar moto (well, two of em, one in black and one lavender) from BB Dakota and love that too.

I think either a bag or a bright bib style necklace in red or blue or maybe mustard would add just a little oomph if you're missing it, but I like the elegance of the look you've put together!

Well I think you look great! However, how you feel is the most important thing, adding a statement bag is always a fun way to add interest without it being too overwhelming (well that is my excuse every time I buy a great bag)...

I too think you looked great, Harmonica. That beautiful striped dress jazzes things up in itself, in my opinion, and I like it with the collar of your shirt.
Of course, it's all about how you feel in an outfit, and I like Bijou's suggestion of perhaps adding a different bag next time. Something in a bright colour (yellow, cobalt, red,...) would immediately create a different vibe. And you could do a bright colour shoe with the dress too if you like.

Thank you for your kind comments! I think the proportions in #1 work well, though. As ETA above, I had time for a quick changup between work and MOTG. Sooo much happier with red shoes and bag! Feels like me

Sisi: The moto is grey, not beige, but the pic is not the best. I could have taken a white tote bag. I'll try that next time. I wish I had a tomato or citron tote.

Thanks again! So glad you liked it. I forgot to mention that I styled my hair myself using a cone shaped hair thing and hair powder (dust it) + slushy gel hair spray, and I quite liked it. I will leave it straight most days, though.

This made me realize I don't have bright coloured work bags. I have

#1 a white tote
#2 checked green
#3 white/black bag
#4 midnight blue (the pic shows black, but it not)

I usually wear a bright orange/tomato blazer (#5) as a pop of colour, but a fun work bag would definately be a good addition to my wardrobe.

The parrot costume was fun to make and DS3 loved it. And the school play was great.

You look fantastic both ways, but I absolutely get what you are saying because #2 feels so much more "you" and I adore it. (I'd be happier in it, too.) As for DS -- SO CUTE!!!!!

Both looks work - and were appropriate to the situation/venue. The dress is versatile and can probably be styled for lots of different looks.

Fabulous switch! The first look is more subdued, but it was a good fit for your goals of being supportive but unobtrusive at the defense. Love the maxi cardi over the dress in #2 -- great thinking!

And the costume is amazing -- way to go, Mom!

AWWW, your little parrot is the cutest!!
I agree your second outfit has more pizzaz, but I like the first version, too - and agree with some others here that it seems just right for the occasion you chose it for.
That really is a terrific dress - and ,as these pictures show, is going to be quite versatile! Good choice!
