WIW fantasy vs reality or what Wed. looks like

i realized after looking at these pictures this morning that maybe a mostly black outfit makes it hard to see the details of what makes the fantasy so different from the reality. but let me tell you, its all in the details. the fantasy outfit (#2) is a long jacket that has a chanelish feel. the reality(#1) is a slightly oversized lightweight wool cardi, and that changes the feel of the outfit completely. at least to me, the fantasy is kind of stately and dressed, the reality is Wednesday i'm going to be at my desk all day trying to catch up….anyway, i love the jacket in the fantasy look, but rarely wear it, because it always seems more formal and sort of standoffish than my workplace. does that make sense?

I think your reality outfit is great. I love the gold on the heels of your shoes. The fantasy outfit is beautiful. The line of the longer cardigan is fab. It's a shame you don't feel appropriate to wear to work as I don't think you look stand-offish at all to me. Would you have the same feelings if it were a long line fabric jacket? To me a knit has a slightly more casual vibe. Perhaps if you popped on the shoes in #1 with it you may not feel quite so formal?

diane, i think that the lower shoes would lend a less dressy feel…maybe i'll have to try that. and interesting that in the pictures the fantasy jacket reads as knit, because its actually a woven, and i think thats what makes it more formal--its stiffer than a sweater because its lined.

Ah, I get you, yes, it does look a little like a knit. I just adjusted my brightness setting on my laptop and I see it better now. I do love the texture of it. You need to wear it!

Totally agree with ladywone -- bring that fantasy into reality! That is an AMAZING long jacket. I think it would be gorgeous over skinny jeans with a tee and black ballet flats. I definitely see what you mean that it is more structured than the cardigan (and the reality outfit is great as it is) -- but I think you can definitely work this fab jacket into a more casual look for something interesting and still warm and approachable. It's really about feeling comfortable in it.

viva---yes in my extreme fantasy world, i would wear this with jeans to work....because i think the jeans would "soften it".
ladywone --need to think about how to make this fantasy a reality.

I love that jacket! And the idea to wear it with flats for a less formal feel. I can definitely see you wearing the fantasy outfit in the office.

This makes perfect sense to me: pared down, more casual version for work, beautiful jacket plus dressier finishing touches for a special look. Both outfits are lovely.

I echo Diane and Ladyone 100%. Wear the gorgeous jacket. It costs nothing to sport this Fantasy look. COMPLETELY appropriate. A gorgeous look on you.

You *could* wear the jacket with jeans to dress it down - if that makes you feel more comfortable.

the same thing. I think it is somehow related to comfort though. Sitting at your desk all day...

You look stunning in that long jacket and heels! Wear it out, if not to work. Or wear it on a day when you are up and around more, rather than sitting at the desk. I agree, perhaps with those pretty low-heeled shoes, the jacket might feel less formal and more wearable? But I also know that how something feels is just as important as how it looks.

Oh, and I like your reality outfit, too!

well the overwhelming support for the fantasy outfit has me rethinking this jacket….i'm thinking that maybe if it wore it over a column of white it would look dramatic it instead of formal. and that would make it more approachable, because it would be more obvious that it was a fashion choice and not a power statement. does that make sense?

You could definitely take this fantasy into your real world. It's all in how you believe it makes you feel and how you present yourself in it. I like the idea of a column of white.
