WIW: Fall Casual and Ponte Pants

Just some recent WIWs. I'm trying to do a little more mix and match instead of the serial repeat. Let's see how long this lasts

I'd love your opinion on these NYDJ ponte pants from the YLF store. I need a non-denim casual bottom that looks dressier than jeans--do you think these work? I sized down but they are still a little wrinkly. I'm not really sure how they are suppose to fit--all I know is that I don't look like the model! TIA

Your smile is so beautiful! Fun casual looks, as always. My faves are 4 and 5 -- loving the rich eggplant hues.

For the leggings, they're nice quality, aren't they? Sveta tried (and bought) them at NAS. They fit her more smoothly, too, but I'm not sure that they have to do so to look good -- I think they look good on you. I suppose it depends on how bothered you are by the sensation of looseness in them?

I had the same problem at the knees with ponti pants so I didn't buy them. It just felt weird.

I love all your outfits. The jacket in #3 is fab.

Your smile just lights up every picture! You look terrific in all of these, but I especially like the ponte pants ones. Love the Cheer Up sweater!

Thanks, Suz, for the eggplant love! DD#1 said she wanted burgundy jeans today. She thought they looked cute--I almost passed out. I am usually wearing a cloak of invisibility unless I'm wearing something hide-e-ous!

The leggings are excellent quality. The looseness doesn't bother me, I just wondered if they look sloppy. (I don't see a single wrinkle on the model. )The rise is going to take a little getting used to--definitely not going to have to hike these up as the day progresses. My other option is a coated jean (looks like leather, I think)--I'm not 100% sure about those either. I will probably post them tomorrow. I have few events where no denim is allowed and I don't want to wear a dress.

@Caro: I think the pant is just loose. I don't think this fabrication will bag too much--if at all.

@Thistle: Thanks! I "borrowed" DD's sweatshirt for the picture (it was handy and clean.) She would be mortified if I started borrowing her clothes. Right now borrowing only works in one direction--from me to her.

I am really not sure on coated denim. I think I just have a poison eye for it, so I would not listen to me!

These are great! Mine wrinkle too - frankly I think the lack of wrinkling looks weirdly tight. It's like stirrup pants all the way up your leg instead of just at your ankle. To wrinkle is human.

I think the ponte pants are flattering. I don't know why, but I often end up with a more wrinkly look than the models. However, we don't know if all the wrinkles were airbrushed away. Or perhaps the models have never bent their knees while wearing the pants. I wonder if a tailor could tell us what is going on.

Great outfits. I particularly like the last one in the grouping. I think the proportions are outstanding and the color of the jeans is a nice change from blue or black. I think the ponte look great too and like the zip detail. I think they are keepers.

Kelly, I always enjoy your WIWs. I'm loving the burgundy/eggplant on you too - maybe I'm prompted by the changing seasons. I don't suppose shortening the pontes a bit would help with the wrinkling? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding the issue.

Fun autumn outfits, 1-4 has some great prints here. Outfit #2 is my favorite because I like the shorter rugged boot with the slouchy jeans tucked in. For the ponte pants, I'm not sure I will be much help. Mine are from Ann Taylor and fit very similar to leggings on me. I only sport mine with longer tops. For non-jean bottoms for shorter tops I go straight to trousers. BR Martin fit my pear shape well but I am very careful about materials. They have to have some structure to them so they don't cling. When pants are very soft to the touch, they fit very tight on me and always look like leggings. It's hard to tell in the photo how tight they fit since they are black. I do think you need them shortened, there is a lot of material near the ankle.

I think the ponte pants look great Kelly and I'm with Una - you don't want them to look painted on.

The ponte pants look like they fit you really well - maybe just a tad long but that depends on how much scrunch you like. More love for that eggplant top - really beautiful color on you! And the outfit with the bright blue jacket is also fantastic.

I’m glad that the ponte pants get the thumbs up--I didn’t think “painted on” when I saw the model but I think that’s how they might look on me if they were any tighter. I feel reassured and will probably keep them as a casual pant.

@Susan: Thanks for bringing up the air brushing. I always forget about those kind of tricks. I really don’t know how they could fit anyone that perfectly!

@Dianthus: Thanks! I know you are a colored denim fan too They are a fun change from blue jeans.

@pil: I do think shortening the pants will help. I just have to figure out what shoes I will be wearing with them most of the time. I’ll probably leave them as is and tuck them into boots until I get my footwear sorted.

@Lisa: Thanks! I think the fabrication on the ponte pants is thick enough and the fit generous enough that I can wear them as pants--with sweaters and blousey tops. I have one other pair of knit pants but they are really leggings and I only wore them with tunics. The fit on these is definitely different. Thanks for chiming in.
