Today I went from a casual afternoon outing to a boat race to a slightly dressier dinner out, with accompanying outfit change. I thought it was interesting that my casual outfit was mostly Essentials, whereas my evening outfit was more Statements. It's also notable that both of these outfits are entirely monochrome, no colors in sight.

1-2: During the day, we went on a very casual daytime jaunt to the Head of the Charles Regatta (huge boat race that happens every October in Boston/Cambridge, with races all day along the river as well). I went for my old standby casual favorite outfit of black tee and blue jeans (both Essentials), some version of which has literally been my FFBO for at least 15 years. My black nylon crossbody bag is also an Essential, as is the casual grey hoodie. The day involved a lot of walking and standing around, so comfy shoes were a must. I went for my flat pearl/silver sandals, since it was super warm (around 70 degrees F). I am going to call these sandals a Workhorse Statement, because the color and bling make them more statementy, yet I wear them with everything and anything as long as the weather permits. Finally, I added some bling with the big silver and crystal necklace, which is obviously a Statement!

3-4: Then a quick stop at home to change clothes, and we were off to dinner. I kept the same black tee (E) and blingy necklace (S), but added a couple of other Statement items (printed silky track pants and my long black vest) to dress up the evening look a little bit. The booties are the navy Fluevogs that I bought from Janet recently; these are also a bit ambiguous as to their E/S status, since they are fairly plain and a dark neutral (navy) color, but then again they are Fluevogs and have the funky shaped heel. I only noticed once I was out the door that one of my pants legs was stuck inside the boots in the photos - I actually unzipped the bottom of the cuffs so that they'd fall nicely over the booties.

Bonus pics from the Regatta. It was the perfect day for it (although it did rain very briefly.)

Apologies for the poor quality of the outfit pics. It was dark out when I took them, and the lighting is really subpar, plus my camera seems to have developed a weird light spot where my right shoulder is in these shots.

1-2: AT tee, KUT catherine jeans, Naot sandals, Tanglewood hoodie, MZ Wallace bag, ??? necklace

3-4: AT tee, Kenneth Cole vest, Gibson pants, Fluevog booties (via Janet), Maxx New York bag.
