WIW: contrast! satin & denim - YouLookFab Forum

Haven't worn this particular look for a few weeks, so time to pull it out while I still have some summer left in the mountains!

I don't even know what to call this look. Urban? Euro Chic? It's not my usual bohemian look -- more the modern (almost Pinterest, if you will) look I like to switch to, just to give myself a break from my usual mix of bohemian. Though, I suppose with the jorts, it still has a bit of bohemian edge.

Mostly, I was craving contrast, juxtaposition, and color! Emerald and spearmint. Distressed cutoffs with satin heels and blouse. I half-tucked the blouse to pare down the volume and give shape. I made the jorts from an old pair of too-large Gap skinny jeans. (Who knew a serrated knife and super heavy grit sandpaper could work so much magic?) They are my summer wildcard!

The heels were my glorious sale find -- $16 for satin and patent leather heels. I've worn them several times because they make me so, so happy! Makeup is restrained smokey eye with rose-beige glossy lip. Please ignore the hair; I need a haircut and my hair was still damp, so it looks rather straggly.

Way to go with the juxto! Such a great look Keturah! You did a great DIY job on those shorts and the blouse color is wonderful on you! I am a big fan of that neckline too! Sales and vintage estate purchases. Woman--you are speaking my language!
PS: As a fellow member of curly/wavy (wild?) hair club, your hair is very pretty. I know how you feel when you need a cut but it still looks great!

In some ways I feel the overall look is a bit "generic." (I mean, have you seen Pinterest with the 1mil+ ladies in jeans/shorts, heels, and blouse? I think we need a new fashion label: the Pinterest look.) But that's why I wanted a lot of contrast. I didn't want it too polished or preppy, and nothing cutesy.

Where are photos of you and your hair??? We need a YLF curly hair club here, me thinks

Alana thank you so much! The shoes...I couldn't leave the store without them. They are a bit wobbly -- almost a 5" heel with a 1-1/5" platform. But I do love them, and for short periods of time I totter about in them without much pain

Suz oh that is good to hear! I was worried it was all "been there, done that" looking. I adore glam - I find it's in just about everything I do. Even if I'm drowning in bohemian styles, I find a way to insert some amount of glamour. I think I just like shiny. If I could, I'd wear glitter on my cheeks like a teen transported from the 1990s! HA!

Celeste that is most fair of you. (I don't have any courage to show my messy kitchen right now, that's for sure!!) You are absolutely gorgeous! I have always swooned over red hair, and yours is perfection. I think red hair deserves to be a bit wild, like Merida in Disney's "Brave."
