WIW: Dresses (my slip is showing!)

I just realized I wore these patent booties all week, with both pants and dresses. First, the outfit I think was a win: the Nine West Magic dress. This is as close as I'll get to a DVF look, and it worked well for going from work to birthday drinks with girlfriends.

Second, a F21 shift dress. I wore this a lot all winter with tights, but this morning DH felt it was too short with bare legs. So I threw on this slip I'd gotten a while back that is meant to show as an underlayer and lengthen dress or skirt length. I got the okay from my fashion friend at work, but I didn't feel quite like myself - guess lace is not my thing.

Wow, I;ve been wondering what the magic dress was! I've seen you mention it but hadn't seen it before. I love the colors and the pattern!

Maybe it's the incongruency between the winter heavy fabric and the light and thin lace? Looks good from a distance on the pic though. Makes the dress more fun.

I like the idea of using a slip to lengthen a too short dress. Do you just use any slip with a lace hem or is this a particular brand/style?

The second dress is actually a flimsy rayon so not heavy at all. The slip is specially made for this with a long double hem of lace. I got it at a local boutique but just looked it up - apparently they are called extender slips and here's a website that shows how cute (but perhaps more twee in a good way) they can be.

I accidentally did the slip extender at a family party. My half slip ( black with several inches of lace on the bottom), slipped down so that the lace hung below my black skirt. My sister said it looked like it was supposed to be that way, or maybe she was just saving my feelings.

The magic dress is exactly what its name describes. It's a miracle item. Wow.

And I really like the look of the extender in the photo, but I do understand how it might not feel quite "you" in some way. I might get the same feeling, even though visually from a distance at least it totally works.

This was named the magic dress on the forum because it worked on so many of us and was in so many prints and colors! I wish I had gotten more. I sold one here because the colors weren't working for me. MsMary has at least one!

You wear dresses well, I love both of these. I love the slip extender idea and for ages I have been wanting a slip with layered tulle. I know it's bit girly for me but I just think it would look really cool falling below the hemline of some of my dresses. I could imagine a tulle hemline looking very good with that second dress

I like the extender slip a lot, I don't think it looks twee at all. I've done this with brightly coloured silk satin and with chiffon. It's a nice way to add a couple of inches.

And the magic dress does what it says on the tin. Can't go wrong with a wrap.

I love the magic dress. I so want a wrap dress. They are so flattering. I don't think the extender slip looks twee. It is a look. The dress and your booties are edgy.

I understand why 1 is the magic dress it is beautiful on you. 2 I guess will have to be saved for winter unless you could do an ankle pant or a skinny crop with it.

Wh as t I'm really amazed by is the shoes work with both these dresses
I would have thought they would only work with pants.

It's great to see a dress with such a long fashion life --- it still looks terrific after several years. Wearing it simply, with strong, but shiny, booties is a perfect styling choice.

An extender with a plain georgette or silk ruffle might work better for your style. Love the idea!

Magic dress is always a winner! I like the other too, but I can see that it's not quite you. More... Me, maybe? I actually did something similar recently with my striped sweater skirt and a (regular) slip that I liked. I've also done it with a very light weight chiffon skirt, so you might want to try that instead.

You need a slip with a faux leather extender section! Looking good in both iterations though

Yep, the magic dress always does its magic! And I really like the lace peeking out in the second outft, but I get why it might not quite be your thing.

Personally I LOVE the extender dress, even more than the magic dress, but that's just me. Both look great. Here's to those awesome booties (wish they worked for me)

What a pity lace is not your thing. As I think the slip is perfect for the dress. Both dresses look very good on you. What a good idea to wear those booties with them. Makes the look very modern. I am always too scared to do this.
