WIW: Dressed Up Jeans with a Vest

I'm going to my alma mater to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of our undergraduate research journal, for which I continue to volunteer as a reviewer! So, I wore dark blue boot cut jeans, a black blouse (another of the Torrid Harper Georgette ones that I love so much), and my silver owl necklace (my university mascot) to WFH and then go to the event. I popped on my faux leather vest after so much discussion about vests on the forum today, and my beloved square-toed Franco Sarto booties I've had for over a decade but haven't worn in a while because the heels are a bit higher than I prefer these days. We'll see how my feet do.

Day two of my commitment to mostly dress smart casual and feeling great about how I look and feel in this outfit. I'm really enjoying all the inspiration from the forum, too! Y'all give me the best ideas.

Y'all, I could cry. The vest is dead. I was washing my hands and I looked up and saw in the mirror there was a big tear on one side and several small tears on the other, in the faux leather, and the material was all wrinkly. RIP, my favorite transitional weather topper.

Kaelyn, I can sympathize with your loss. I lost a black faux leather vest too.
The "leather" is peeling off. Also my beloved blush moto jacket is disintegrating I have had the jacket 10 to 12 years, but the vest only about three. I will miss both. I wore the vest quite often. The jacket, I wore much less, but wore it on special occasions when I wanted to feel dressed-up a bit. I had not worn it for last two years, because I went nowhere to wear.it. Yes, RIP, along with yours., and I am sorry about yours. I started to post how much I liked your vest and then saw your last post, and that changed my comment completely!!! Hugs

Oh Kaelyn I was about to comment on how much I liked the outfit- and I still do! But that’s sad about the vest. I am out of faux leather currently too- my favourite ponte pants from 2014 with faux leather side panels shredded themselves a few years later after many wears. It seems to happen

Thanks, everyone, for the kind comments after this sad loss. I mentioned it to my mom, and she said she'd see about getting me something similar for my birthday because she's SUPER SWEET. Will have to keep an eye out for a budget-friendly vest over the next couple weeks. (My birthday is on Saturday, but she has a lot going on right now.) If anyone happens to see something and think of me that's available in plus sizes, let me know!

I love this outfit and am really sad to hear that your vest is ruined. I have also had similar issues with faux leather and prefer to buy real leather, which whilst expensive, definitely goes the distance. I love your owl pendant!

The lines of your vest have become a HEWI for me. It took me years to identify that I like a bright metal zipper that stands out as it follows a horizontal line on the collar and then drops vertically on the jacket. Knowing that I like this combination : ‘a horizontal collar outlined by a visible zipper’, it is now a HEWI for me. I also pair it with a long chain as you do. I also look for a knit or soft fabric that allows for curves rather than a stiff fabric. Perhaps you have similar likings.

I happen to have this sweater jacket along similar lines that I love.
NIC+ZOE MOTO ZIP JACKET.

You might keep your eye on the Nic + Zoe brand. I look for their jackets in softer fabrics with shorter wider lapels. I particularly like an Angie find: their Santa Monica shirt jacket. I have also had success finding N+Z on sale.

I hope you have quick success in finding a suitable replacement.

LAR101, thank you for the kind words and the advice! I had a few Nic+Zoe pieces on my wishlist last year, though I wasn't able to fit them into my budget. Most of the stuff I've seen from them this year is less my style, but they're definitely one of the brands I'll keep following. I do have similar taste to yours, it sounds like; I'm a tall inverted triangle and the way this vest flared out at the hip balanced my figure out so perfectly, I always felt confident wearing it. The bold, vertical silver line suits me, too. I really am going to miss this vest, but thank you for reminding me what I loved about it so I can keep an eye out for something similar!
