WIW: Don't it always seem to go...?

With apologies to Joni Mitchell. I wore this out with my new peacoat and Ugg Chelsea boots to take DS to bookstore, lunch and 3D neon mini-golf. Headache aside, I was totally comfortable and most of all I felt like MYSELF! (Mo!)

This thrifted almost-tunic top is one of those items I reach for all the time on weekends and treat like gear, yet never really have acknowledged as anything more than a throw-on-and-go kind of item. Now that it is disintegrating, I feel I've never appreciated it as I should have.

These COH grey skinnies have been the love of my life recently - so glad I splurged on them. They fit my calves! And are so soft and stretchy without bagging!

Do you ever have this kind of ":guilty" lightbulb moment when you don't know what you've got till it's gone?

Unfortunately I do - mainly with more casual knits & tops - they are the hardest things for me to find - so many of them look either too frumpy on me or too bombshell for my liking

If we knew how much we'd rely on certain items, we'd buy duplicates at the start, wouldn't we? Except I guess you couldn't with this top, anyway, since it was thrifted.

Those jeans do look great on you. You're making me think that I should check them out. My Gap Always Skinnies have been more like Always Baggies on me lately.

Yeah, I am getting that niggling feeling about a 50-cent Three Dots top. Much the same story: it's great to throw on alone in summer or under a jacket any time. And it won't last forever...

Yes, this has happened in the past - more than once. The last time, it was a favorite pair of pants and I was at least smart enough to buy them in every color they came in (blue, black, and brown). The next year I spotted the same pants on the clearance rack - I quickly bought three more pairs!

Threadjack, Marcy - I call my Gap Always Skinnies Always Baggies! They bagged out on the knee so much on me that I just gave up and cut them off for shorts.

Una, you look great and no wonder this top became a weekend workhorse. I find my best items are often like that -- simple, easy on staples.

I had a similar but flawed experience recently with a top I always wanted to wear but didn't like. It was the denim shirt from BR. I reached for it again and again -- but then I'd hate wearing it because of the cut and lack of drape. Made me realize how much I need a well-cut, well-draping dark denim shirt in my life. Still haven't found it, but I did get a much better light version that I also reach for all the time.

Yes! I'm worried about my Paige skinnies (just the right amount of skinny and stretch, and *just* long enough to wear with any shoes) and the black Gibson equestrian blazer. I keep reaching for them, knowing that someday they're going to get threadbare and nasty. Why did Gibson have to change that original cut? It is so flattering.

I can see why this is a fave for you. Easy and looks great! Love those boots.

Oh, I feel your pain. That is a cute top. I love those pieces that can be thrown on without any thought. Perhaps you can identify what you really like about it and look for similar sort of top. Is it the fabric or the shape? The drape?

I love the grey skinnies. Now you have me thinking that I need a pair! Except that my calves are enormous, so skinnies can't be too skinny below the knee.

Hooray for a "you" outfit! I'm not sure I have an item that I didn't appreciate until i didn't have it anymore . . . . will have to think on that one.

First of all Una, you look great! And isn't it wonderful to feel totally "yourself" in an outfit? That's something I strive for all the time!

Secondly, regarding your top that's almost like "gear": I'm very much like that. I discovered a few months ago that I'm a uniform dresser: I have a number of tops I can just throw on and go out the door with. When I actually find something that fits, I buy multiples: just because I'm a very grab-and-go don't-think-about-it kind of girl.

I do think with some items we like to wear comfortably, we tend to take them for granted. Perhaps because it may make us feel completely "in tune" with ourselves that we don't notice? And when it's gone... That's when we notice and realize the effect on us. It's happened to me on more than one occasion!

As for the sag less/bag less jeans... What brand are they? You and I have similar body types so I'm really interested!

Ms K, they are Citizens of Humanity. They were pricey but I'd done enough experimenting with my cheap AE grey skinnies to know I'd get CPW out of them!

Janet, what size is your Gibson? I may be getting rid of my two (grey and black) as they are a bit too bulky at my new job.

Una, my Gibson is a small. If you truly do not want yours anymore, I'd gladly take them off your hands! You have the one with the lower back hem, right? I tried the one that is more of a typical straight hem blazer type, but it doesn't flatter me as much.

I'll check - mine may be a PM though! Dang shoulders.

I love this outfit. You look so amazing in those skinnies. I share your calf-fit issue, especially on my left side, where my calf is 12.5" (right side a plump 12.75"). Combine that with thighs that are around 2" bigger than average for my waist size and I have fit issues. Mostly I have to size up one size to fit the thighs and then the waist and calves are too big, but oh well. I once checked a measurement chart on for Bloomingdale's designer fit, and my bust was a size 6, waist a size 2, hips a size 4 and thighs... a size 10! (for real) My calves would have been a size 0 but they left that measurement out. Thank you for letting me take over your thread to whine.

Which is to say, please share the details (fit name, wash) of the skinnies because I would love a pair that fit down there (no, not that down there either).

Great outfit. I think it's really lucky that you have recognised that you love the top, because it may help you with a template to replace it in your wardrobe.

I recently gave a lot of my old clothes to my sister and got a text this morning telling me that one dress had been worn to a club last night. And I thought "Oh, I loved that dress so much!" Then I thought it might be a bit weird to be so emotionally attached to my clothes!

Denise, I am fascinated/horrified to think there is actually some sort of device to determine whether one's thighs are a typical measurement for the rest of a person's body. I think I will stay far, far away from that calculator, since I'm actually starting to think more kindly of my thighs!
